  5. Thanks for that Nate. It makes you wonder how many so called “ugly” people don’t ever make it on a show like American Idol.

  23. wish you people would knock your shit off about the Ms I do not have a problem with Terri or Ryan they are both good at what they do! I have talked with several Stuart parents that have children in the MS and they are not having any problems and NO not all the kids are out for sports!! I think Ryan is not trying to be mean I just thinks he wants rules which at this age they did disipline anyway I can think of 101 things Ryan has done for the MS I wish him all the luck in the world if he is really smart he would get the hell out of here! He could do so much better to many kids that cause trouble interrupt class and those kinds of kids do need to be handled differently!

  24. anonymous on April 15, 2009 11:07 pm
  25. Ridout handled a special needs child alright, screamed at the kid until he made him cry. If your child was disabled and in a wheel chair…would it be okay? How bout if your child had a learning disability? Or would you be a parent who locked your kid up so the public couldn’t see her because you were embarrassed by your child’s appearance or ability? That’s what it sounds like 9:02pm. Hey Ridout…it’s not over until the fat lady sings…goodbye! Go away! Far, Far away! Hey maybe Pennsylvania will take you with high regards from Arnold

  26. Anonymous on April 16, 2009 6:43 am
  27. this thread is for the singer not the bs from school

  37. Have you read the allegations against Arnold in Abington, Pa. The special ed. teacher strapped autistic children down in chairs with bungie cords and back handed them, squeazed and pinched their arms and legs causing bruises, stepped on and bruised the tops of their feet, screamed in their face. She back handed a child and gave the child a fat lip and it bled. Then she called the mom and told her the child fell and it was an accident. The teacher went to jail and our superintendant Arnold, who was her supervisor, reccommended that the para educators who reported abusive teacher to the police “be fired immediately for interfering with the teacher’s job” He fled the district, broke out of his contract early, and came to Iowa. NOW HE IS OUR SUPE. It looks like he has jumped from district to district, court case to court case. After doing nothing about Ridout, writing a lovely Ridout support letter to the DC News, and threatening parents, strangers, and staff…it is apparent that he condones abusing children. After reading the court case, I was in dismay and then I got angry. How could our school board keep him? We pay him over 100,000 dollars a year. Another student’s parent from Pa. came forward and they have pressed charges and have a hearing coming up. It wasn’t an isolated instant…it was a whole classroom of special need children. He really must feel like he is moving up in the “abuse” realm as now he has a principal who abuses a “whole school of children and staff” But, most abusers do that…they start out with a push, then an occasional slap, to a punch and then they hold their victim down and choke them until they are dead or kill them with a weapon. Hitler comes to mind when I think of Arnold. IT’S SICK!!! He stated” Ridout was a leading insight as to what other district look for.” Most abusers think everyone thinks like them… Arnold, your skeletons have chased you down and they will follow you wherever you go. I pray for the children in Abington heights and I pray for our children also. God Speed to the board to do the right thing. Harry Light-how do you sleep at night?

  44. Terri Barnet and Darlene Navin- I don’t know if you read this, but if you do…I hope you see this post first. Thank you for utilizing the union that you belong to… to make a formal complaint. That is very professional. The teacher’s union is there for the teachers and if they have a grievance they will take it to them…just as you did. That is what the teachers union and support staff union is about, they are the same….but serve two different groups of employees working for one district, accomplishing the same goal…EQUALITY. I want to tell you that you are two strong women and have are probably surviving the battery of insults and cold shoulders at the school and what a few of the community members are giving you. Soon this will be old news and a new Maid Rite in Stuart or a new Highschool will be the buzz. Know that this won’t last forever. YOU DID THE RIGHT THING FOR STANDING UP FOR YOUR INTEGRITY AND MORALITY. The school prides itself on character counts. You followed your chain of command, unfortunately the problem was at the top…so you had to go higher. Don’t let it bother you that staff and people pick sides. They only hear one side of the story and really it has nothing to do with them. It is saddening to see this occur and after looking into your past record, you both have been dedicated to our children for a long time and neither one of you have ever “stirred the pot” which leads be to believe these allegations are supported with written documents, as they couldn’t be filed in court on hearsay alone. Keep your heads up, show grace in the face of the storm. It takes the rock to make a ripple of change…stand strong ladies. Our teachers in the Middle School are superb. Thank you for making the career choice to teach children, you are the role model…you are the memories of middle school that they will tell their children about when their kids reach that age. You make a print on their life experience. Please always remeber that when talking to fellow staff, when talking to children and when talking to parents. You “set the stage” and what you do is wonderful. Let’s make their middle school memories ones that they will cherish. I would like to note…that I did not post the administration names in this post. I know who does the work in the school…it’s the teachers and the paraeducators. Hand in hand…YOU ARE WHAT MAKES WCV MIDDLE SCHOOL. WCV PRIDE!

  48. If you knew what went on at the city council meeting, Maid-Rite is not planning on building in Stuart, it is a mobile food trailer that would visit 2-3 times per month. And yes, I think the judges on Idol looked like they had all just wet their pants…

  56. If the Maid Rite people were smart they would set up in Menlo so they could get all the workers from the new place

  57. Anonymous on April 24, 2009 7:57 am
  58. All the workers are going to go to stuart anyway, more to choose from including a possible maid rite.

  59. Anonymous on April 24, 2009 7:33 pm
  60. Even though it is a Menlo address, the new place and Ethanol plant are about the same distance between Stuart and Menlo.

  61. Anonymous on April 24, 2009 7:34 pm
  62. Costs for Maid Rite would be way less here than in larger areas. With the interstate, they do just as well as they do in larger cities.

  64. What are the other towns charging them?

  65. Anonymous on April 26, 2009 9:14 am
  66. I know this has nothing to do with the above but I was reading our OFFICIAL school paper and the board minutes and I am amazed!!! Who else do you know but our board secretary that has been on the job less than a year and has now neogated another week of vacation plus a raise. Who else works less than a year and now has 4 weeks of vacation. Our board is unreal…. Cutting programs and giving away 4 weeks of vacation Do the other support staff get 4 weeks?? Who besides Arnold and now her get a month off?????

  67. anonymous on April 26, 2009 2:21 pm
  68. It’s just another example of the board not being able to say NO to Arnold.
He had to recommend it, I’m sure.
It’s time for this board to change. People and attitude. Attitude first and remember who they represent.
That’s the people who elected them, NOTTTTTTT ARNOLD!!

  69. Anonymous on April 26, 2009 8:24 pm
  70. My God is all you have to do is ask and you shall receive! Arnold tells our board what to do and they nod their heads and always vote yes. What was the criteria for her getting 4 weeks vacation???? Give me a break!!! What will she get next year? Good lord what do you suppose she will ask for next year? Just like Arnold TOLD our board here is your new footbal coach Gabe!!! I wonder if our board was even aware of who applied for it… I watched Gabe lead and he seriously lacks leadership so how on earth is he going to lead our football team??????? I think its a bunch of ######tTRE%%^%5$#TTT^^%$$..

  71. anonymous on April 27, 2009 8:30 pm
  72. ahhh geeze ….Arnold tells the board what to do??? Really!!!! I can tell you first hand, he doesn’t TELL them what to do…he “suggests” with “a wink”…the same way Rogers did, when he would have “his meeting before the meeting” and call every one to find out which way they were going to vote. Arnold thinks he is a wealthy wonna-be and we are the poor simple people of western Iowa who haven’t got a lick of sense…our board makes sure his idea about of community is correct. Our middle school teachers stand up for it too, they wouldn’t want to have to be respectful to the children and lead by example…that would require work. It’s more fun to belittle the kids you hate and favor the kids you like, ignore the quite ones and talk to the social ones, pick your favorites and single out the ones you like…stand up at board meetings(while collecting a check) and defend the leader(Ridout) who demonstrates all those fine teaching qualities mentioned above, all the while singling out employees who refuse to go with the flow and choose to stand their ground after those same employees saved the teacher’s A*** while covering for them when they didn’t get their jobs done….didn’t notify parents….lost a kid at school….talked a parent down who came into scream at them after they talked or emailed something ingorant to them.

  73. anonymous on April 28, 2009 6:23 pm
  74. It is a bunch of crap a fairly new district employee gets as much vacation as she does. Most places of employment you have to work longer than she has to get the amount she gets. Certain district employees get all the breaks it seems! Administrators, district business manager, get the perks while the teachers get nothing! Janitorial staff gets paid to do nothing in some of our buildings but at the same time think they run the building.

  75. Anonymous on April 28, 2009 8:30 pm
  76. Well its now apparent that our board needs a policy manual. That way they would know that you don’t give an employee with less than a year in the job 4 weeks vacation. THey need it written down what is the standard. I just got my news letter and was somewhat surprised to learn that our enrollment was down by 25 students. I swear I heard we were going to grow with this new school. Thats how they got it passed and now look. Its just what people were telling them. Our enrollment was going to decrease and our economy is in the dumps but what the hell build it and they will come. Bull crap. The only thing for certain is Arnold is getting paid too much and our board is giving away vacation. Too bad Arnold doesn’t spend some of that money in our communities!!!

  77. Anonymous on April 28, 2009 8:44 pm
  78. When the new schools ARE BUILT the families will come. This is a proven by STATISTICS, take the time and look them up.

  79. anonymous on April 29, 2009 6:48 am
  80. 8:44, Facts are much more important than statistics. We were told so many things would happen and none have.
I know the school isn’t built yet, but do you think people are leaving now when one is supposed to be done within approx. a yr?
Statistics were used when whole grade sharing came about, when everything has been pushed on us, and none that I can think of has panned out to be what the statistics said they would be.
Who put your statistics together?? What are the demographics and socio-economic factors in those areas? It makes a Hell of a difference, and now with the economy in the tank and the fear of high gas prices just waiting to happen again, I highly doubt people will be moving here because there is a new building.
6:23—the teachers get nothing???? What do you want? You got a raise when most in other jobs got nothing or took a pay cut or in many cases lost their jobs.
I totally agree the admisistrative salaries and perks(annuities, etc.) are ridiculous, but don’t hit me with the teachers get nothing.
As far as the business manager or secretary or what–that is pure nonsense what she got. And a lot of you wonder why people are upset.

  81. Anonymous on April 29, 2009 7:18 am
  82. 6:48 must be a disgruntled person who voted No on the bond issues everytime. Get over it already. When the schools are built the people will come. And as far as anything being pushed on the people I believe we had to vote on everything didn’t we? That’s called Democracy! And as far as a lot of people being upset, seems to be only a very few people are upset, same ones that complain about everything.

  83. Anonymous on April 29, 2009 7:47 am
  84. I have talked to a couple people who are new families to the Stuart area and they said if the bond didn’t pass that they weren’t going to move here.

  85. Anonymous on April 29, 2009 9:46 am
  86. 6:48 Explain to us just what the FACTS are. Show us some FACTS so we can understand your point of view. Remember FACTS are just that, FACTS, not something you feel or make up, they have to be real ideas or theories that are proven or debunked, that is the definition of what a FACT is. And thats a FACT.

  87. Anonymous on April 29, 2009 11:08 am
  88. Hmmm Sounds like there might be a fruit basket upset come next election????? If you people have a problem with the board, then vote them out. I’m not for or against just offering a simple suggestion. People really do have a voice, and can be effective.

  89. anonymous on April 29, 2009 1:42 pm
  90. 7:18 you couldn’t be more wrong about me and my voting record.
9:48 I will come up with some FACTS when the other person comes up with some real STATISTICS.
Sounds like the same person posting repeatedly here, huh 7:18, 7:47, and 9:48?
I would like to know the new families who moved to the area because of the school.
One FACT is undeniable—25 less kids this yr.
So let’s see one STATISTIC to counter!
Please make your point clearer. I will make mine more clear. We all know of a lot of games that have been played, but truth be told I have always voted YES and YES.
9:46 I challenge YOU to disprove what I said. If you believe statistics are fact then you lack common sense, since statistics can be, and are, put together to serve about any purpose or belief simply by leaving out just what I mentioned. Demographics and soci-economic circumstances.
You say you don’t have too, huh? Sounds like someone in the system to me.

  91. Anonymous on April 29, 2009 2:51 pm
  92. Like I thought, no FACTS just angry rhetoric and empty words.

  93. Anonymous on April 29, 2009 3:22 pm
  94. How hard is it to get on this blog and not write something negative? Seriously, grow up and be nice to one another. This is one of my FEW post and I wish this stupid blog would be shut down. A newspaper is used to let people know about what is going on in their community. And there is a Letter To the Editor section for those of you that feel the need to voice your opinion. Grow up pleae. WCV PRIDE!!

  95. Buzz Malone, President, Laborers' Local Union 566 on April 29, 2009 4:50 pm
  96. Some of you have expressed that the Dallas County News was biased in its’ reporting. I can tell you that while in the recent Stuart newspaper it was stated that the Union did not respond to Superintendent Arnold’s statements, that we never received a call from that newspaper to any of our phone numbers, nor did we receive any faxes, or any other correspondence from them seeking comment.

Beyond that, let me simply state that while two individuals did come forward and agree to use their names, that we had received a number of other allegations and reports from other employees who had requested to remain anonymous.

As a union, it is our legal and ethical responsibility to respond to every allegation and complaint we receive. And we received a record number of allegations and complaints from a large number of workers at the district, some of whom were not in our unit.

To the citizens of this district I would like to say only that, for our children to truly be safe in a school, every employee, and every parent must feel comfortable that they can come forward with complaints without fear of being mistreated in any way. Every complaint should be taken seriously and investigated fully and completely.

No matter which “side” of this issue you are on, it is important to remember that you, as citizens, ultimately place your children in the trust of the employees and administration of the school district, and no one should seek to admonish those who come forward and report what they believe to be improprieties.

As to the administration…no one in our unit, nor in any of the complaints has ever said that they believe the administrators involved are “bad people.” There were questions about their behavior at times, but neither we, nor the staff that we represent, sought to have anyone fired.

As a union, we seek fairness and respect in the workplace. But nothing in the actions or representations by any of us involved should EVER be interpreted as reflecting negatively upon the district itself. WCV has some of the most dedicated support staff we have encountered, some of the finest teachers, and we are told, some of the best and brightest students that Iowa has to offer.

In parting, I would offer to everyone in the community that everyone involved in these recent events has only one thing in mind… the best interests of your children.

Our members look forward to moving beyond these recent issues, and working together in positive ways to improve the district and the community.

  97. Nate on April 29, 2009 5:00 pm
