What’s new?

August 19, 2008 |

The Iowa State Fair is over. School starts in a couple days. The Olympics are almost over. Shawn Johnson finally got her gold. My cats are getting neutered today. The west wing of the high school is coming down. John Stamos turns 45 today. I’m having a fantasy football draft at Ruby’s on Sunday. The Chicago Cubs are leading the NL Central by 5 games and we’re in the middle of August. The Royals of course are in last place in the AL Central. Bid now on a timeshare at Lake Panorama (well, only 4 blocks away) for February 15-22! What a great week for a timeshare in Iowa.

What else is new?

  1. LOL on the Lake Panorama. I know Feb 15-22 is my ideal time, for a lake side (well 4 blocks away) getaway in Iowa.

hey I have some cool furniture, that floats in water, for sale…(sounds better than saying flood damage junk)…maybe the same person that goes for that timeshare will be interested..:)

Nuke and Crash are adorable. Unfortunately, all kittens become cats. You should consider removing the breast buds and uterus’s of the kittens to stunt their growth - that way they’ll be cute forever! I’ve done it with my kitty, Cuddles, and after a few weeks of soreness from going under the knife, he’s been as cute as a button (he’s almost 5!).

Some of my friends have also used what vets refer to as the Spine Breaking Technique (SBT) to stunt their kittens growth, but there’s a little more risk involved with this.

Rex Wilhelm will typically do this for a nominal fee. If mortality ensues he can usually find you another one.

    Good luck with the procedure!

  11. OK, please know I think the new school was a fine decision.

Just got my prop. tax notices.

42.9% increase for the school?? Does this even cover any of the bond issue? Are you already collecting on something that’s not even decided yet? If so, what fund is that money going into?

Not that I don’t trust you, it’s just that I don’t. Tax money will be spent one way or the other, we all know that. You’re not gonna let it slide away.

Yeah, I’m a farmer and it’s tough, believe me. It adds up ridiculously.

Nothing new in this family, this yr. So businessmen, don’t plan on a good yr. Just my humble opinion.

    Shocked in West Central Valley

  13. Shocked, I agree. You should read the latest article. Now we are going to have a smaller school thanks to the giant screw up. I knew this would happen though as did many other people. Hilarity ensues.

  15. Time for some yes voters to open up their wallets.

  16. Anonymous on August 20, 2008 7:13 pm
  17. The no voters should open their wallets, the 2003 bond issue was for 9 million rather than the almost 17 million one we just passed.

  19. Nobody screwed up. Rambo told the board in 2007 the city would have to take care of the infrastructure costs. I hope we don’t end up in a 28E sharing agreement so the other three towns that make up the district end up paying for infrastructure. Why should anybody but the Stuart residents pay for infrastructure upgrade? Open up your wallets yes voters. I bet Sharon Sloss is steamed that the elementary is going to be smaller!

  21. You were warned about the increase in taxes but did anyone listen?

  22. Anonymous on August 21, 2008 8:35 am
  23. I am sure that Sharon Sloss is just glad that she will be getting her kids in a safer building without issues with the kitchen and radon and 3 stories.

  25. Blah, blah, blah. Get over it. We’ll have a new school. The little kids will have a safe building. You never-get-over-it nay sayers, find a new hobby.

  26. Anonymous on August 22, 2008 10:38 am
  27. Oh, so 9:20 you know it all and get the last word, right?? Others have a right to voice their opinions. So Blah, blah, blah, get over it yourself. Maybe become a property owner so you can help pay for something.
We were never warned of this size of a tax increase. If we were it wouldn’t have passed. So yeah Stuart open up your pockets, blah, blah, blah especially. You probably have 3 kids, rent and pay no taxes or else live in another district.

  29. Things would have been so much better if the yes, yes, yes vote would have passed. Then instead of pouring $ into a building that isn’t good enough for our high school students, but our administration believes that it is just fine for elementary students- we would be building onto a far better structure at the Dexter elementaryy building. Who ever said that Dr Arnold knew what’s best for the district? Not me! The administration wanted a new HS so badly that they strong armed the voters into an uninformed bond issue. Yes, we needed to improve on the structures that we have and a new building is the way to go, but had the voters passed this bond issue years ago- we would have had to pay 9 million instead of 17 million. Also we could have had a much larger facility than what we will get now. Who knows what the will have to make cut backs now? I voted for the drawings that were on an easle at the parent-teacher conferences and a district wide elementary in Dexter. They are going to have to make some drastic cuts in order to stay within their bonding authority. I just wonder where they will be. Tonight there is a special joint city council and school board meeting at the Stuart city hall to discuss 28E agreements for a wellness center and something else. I feel that we should be more concerned about providing adaquit space for learning rather than a wellness center.
