- College football season is finally here! The Iowa State Cyclones survived against a tough Division I-AA opponent in North Dakota State last night. The Iowa Hawks start their season against Northern Iowa tomorrow at 11:05 am in Iowa City.

- A scary trend is growing in our area. Numerous reports of abduction attempts are being made to local police. Please tell your kids to be careful!

- The season championship at Stuart Speedway is this Sunday, September 6. The after-party is, as always, at Ruby’s with live music from Dusty Baird.

Have a good Labor Day weekend. I’ll be enjoying a bacon explosion or two.

- I love the smell of oil and pea gravel in the morning! But at least the roads will be good. My road anyway.

- Did anybody have a chance to see Sen. Grassley on Wednesday? I didn’t make it. Did he talk about “pulling the plug on Grandma” in Panora?

- School starts next week. Parents are celebrating and kids are bummed. At least that hasn’t changed since I was there.

- Lots of stuff on the agenda for Monday’s City Council meeting. Maybe you should go??

Come check out MoneyShot at Ruby’s tonight. They’re one of the bands playing the street dance on August 29th.

- I’m offering the use of Ruby’s to President Obama for his next beer summit. I expect a phone call very soon.

- Construction is continuing nicely at both school sites. Despite a few setbacks, both sites are expected to be finished on time.

- Be sure to notice the new road markings painted last week. They’re pretty. Also check out the Stuart sign at McDonald’s when you pull into town from the interstate. Anything look strange?

Ready for one last summer bash? Ruby’s and Johnie’s are hosting another street dance on August 29th starting at 8:00 pm. The Kent Brothers and MoneyShot will be performing on stage.

- Are you “dedicated to promoting equal opportunity for a quality public education to enrolled students and toward being responsive to the educational needs, values, and aspirations of citizens?” Then run for West Central Valley Board of Education. Current members with expiring terms this year: Doug Wiles in District 3, Marty Doud in District 4, Mick Askren in District 6, and Jenyse Belden in District 7. Candidates have until July 30 to file.

- If you’re feeling brave and have a little weight to lose head to Valley West Mall on July 25 for a “Biggest Loser” casting call. I usually like watching this show for the first few weeks, but gradually lose interest as the contestants get smaller than me.

- The Stuart Library is gone. The building is gone anyway, and constructionon on the new building has already started. The library hopes to open in the temporary location, the Stuart Town Hall, by July 20.

- Should Michael Jackson be butterized? Vote at the Iowa State Fair website.

Golfing, racing, and live music. Should be a good weekend :)

Cuz seven ate nine! Get it? Ha ha ha.

Happy 07/08/09!

Hello Real World

May 21, 2009 | 6 Comments

It’s graduation time again. West Central Valley’s commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 23 at 11am at the football field in Stuart. Wear sunscreen!

Maybe it’s just me, but is anyone else concerned that we have more finishers from the alternative school than we have students graduating with a GPA above 3.5? Am I just reading the newspaper wrong? It worries me a little I guess. Regardless, I wish all the graduates the best of luck in the future. School grades don’t necessarily translate to success down the road anyway, but they can’t hurt.

“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” -Steve Jobs

Congratulations West Central Valley class of 2009!

A New Look

May 19, 2009 | 8 Comments

I’ve given the Good Egg Gazette a much-needed makeover. Along with the changed look come a few new rules as well.

  • Don’t be a dick.
  • Don’t be an idiot.

That’s about it really. I’m leaving the anonymous function on…for now. Play nice.

All ranting and raving I feel like doing will now fall under this category.
