A new chief for Stuart
February 6, 2007 |
In a few short hours Stuart will have a new police chief. Considering the drama Stuart has seen lately, this appointment carries a lot of weight. There’s a spotlight on the police department, and the chief position in particular, that we haven’t seen for a while, and increased public scrutiny is a virtual guarantee.
So what are we looking for? What qualities do we want our new chief to possess? What characteristics should he/she have? More importantly, who is the best candidate, and can this person handle the pressures associated with being Stuart Iowa’s Chief of Police?

Love the pic!
Anyway…
“What qualities do we want our new chief to possess?” Pertinent question — would have been a great question for the mayor-appointed police chief search committee to ask the tax-paying community in a public meeting setting before beginning the interviewing process…
It would have offered Stuart residents the illusion, anyway, that they had a voice in the selection of the person ultimately responsible for their public safety.
Just my two cents’ worth…
I think those are all pretty high expectations for a police chief in stuart. Beggars cannot be choosers- how about just someone who has been sober for at least 90 days, has a highschool diploma and not so obese they have to ride around in a senior citizen jazzy-scooter all over town? I can’t imagine the area overflowing with enough cop-talent to meet the high standards you describe, like qualities and characteristics?
Sorry - I just have this image of the city council doing rock paper scissors to find out who the new Police Chief will be. By the power invested in me by the internet- I hereby nominate Craig Zorns.
Well Craig Zornes should know the law inside and out,but he should probably live in the state of Iowa before he can be police chief. He can’t move back because of all of his outstanding warrents. So hes probably not the best choice either.
All I know is that whoever it is better be warned about the IEye and that group. They are troublemakers and if allowed, will sink their claws deep into him. I will bet anyone that within 24 hours of being hired (more likely RIGHT after the meeting adjorns) Ann will run right up to the new chief and congratulate him and “warn” of the “bad elements” of this town.
Hopefully, he will have enough sense to stay clear of those ladies and know that they are the ones who are trouble.
Zip it, Ann. This is a new police department with no connections to you. You are officially released of your “duty” to report on the pd and how it’s being oppressed by the council and town.
Now run along. SHOO
Why are they troublemakers? What have “the IEye and that group” done?
i love that word “troublemakers” - especially when its used to describe a blogger. Those darn troublemakers over at the iEye - how dare they be so subversive? How dare they not go with the flow and keep their opinions to themselves? only dead fish go with the flow.
Why are they troublemakers? Are you serious? Look how they have gotten everyone to fighting and bickering amongst themselves! People’s reputations are getting trashed because “the IEye and that group†don’t like a decision they made or their opinions. People see one side because they see it on the blog. They believe that trash because they don’t have the ambition or nerve to go ask questions.
I’m thinking you believe it too Nate. I bet you read it and you think wow, they did that? But, do you go ask questions for yourself? I’ve yet to see it. You ask bloggers. Some (like me) tell the truth and some give their opinions as truth. But because this is the “Anonymous” world, it makes no difference because by posting as anonymous, their integrity is supposedly lacking to say the least. You question anonymous who are negative about the Ieye ladies or Carol when she was the spotlight but when it’s negative toward others, you accept it.
It’s hard to post with a real name because, unfortunately, everybody is connected to everyone else. If someone posted it’s because he/she is friends with someone else and you get the “Don’t believe it” from another person.
Grrr! This is just getting so frustrating to tell the truth but have no one believe. I can argue until I’m out of breath but you will still be skeptical. I’m just sick of it and very disappointed.
Nate, I seriously can not believe how you are such a supporter of the Ieye and Carol.
Who’s fighting and bickering? Is it the ten different people that actually read this stuff? Who’s reputation is really getting trashed?
If someone doesn’t have the ambition to get educated or lacks the nerve to ask questions why are you so worried about their opinion and what they believe anyway?
What do you mean I don’t ask questions for myself? Just because you don’t see me walking up and down Main Street stopping people and interrogating them doesn’t mean I’m not getting answers to my questions. Every single thing I know doesn’t have to become part of the Gazette.
I’m a supporter of the Independent Eye because they speak their minds and back up their observations with solid details.
I’m a supporter of people not getting screwed and if that makes me a supporter of Carol then, yeah, I guess I am.
Here’s my advice: Take a deep breath and relax. Try to remember there are far more important things in the world than what a few bloggers say. Don’t take this too seriously.
But keep this in mind too…to initiate a debate, sometimes I have to go over to the not-so-popular side of the fence. Gotta keep things interesting, ya know? Maybe I’ll get lucky one of these days and somebody that reads this will realize that you can disagree with someone and still get along with them just fine, or at least still have respect for them.
daddy got his motorcycle from rayburn thats why he liks her.
Really? Interesting…
I don’t know how interesting it is, but, yeah, he bought his motorcycle from her.
clever stuff. Is this junior high?
We could only hope that everyone posting here was as clever as a kid in junior high.
What does it matter where he got the cycle? He found one he liked and the price was right. This has nothing to do with the topic at this moment, or that so&so doesn’t/does like so&so. Who cares who likes who, sounds life a bunch of elementary kids. Stick to topic and leave him out of it.
Now, where would the fun in that be?

You never answered my questions. And I’m asking these questions for myself.
Are they the same person?
Interesting observations this time Nate.
I just wanted to post because my father is the new Stuart, Iowa police chief. He’s a good person and always tries to do right by the people he serves and protects. Just give him a chance to do his job and you’ll see what kind of person he is.
whatever happened to the administrative leave cop. I hear he is working out of City Hall, oh boy!!!! whats up with that, had to utilize his time somehow, I guess, being he was being paid for sitting at home!!!
Yeah and isn’t he being charged, so how can he work????
