“I have to agree he is terribly overpaid and I have no idea what he does”

If you have no idea what he does how can you say he’s overpaid? Doesn’t that seem a little contradicting? While I don’t necessarily agree or disagree with the writer’s thoughts in the rest of the post, this particular comment stood out to me.

If I have no idea what a guy does, that would seem to me a pretty good reason not to judge his salary.  Judge his style in clothes, whether he likes ketchup or mustard, his preference of a toilet paper roll going over the top or underneath if you know something about it.

This is by no means the only comment like this. There have been quite a few statements like this lately, and they come from all sides of the Yes/No-East/South-my town/your town argument. I realize people are fired up about this, and I admire the passion. What I don’t admire is statements that have no logic behind them.

I’ll take a number two with a Pepsi and a side order of common sense please.

  1. I’m not here to argue with you Nate or the poster, but I think you may have taken his comment just a little out of context. I happen to agree with what he said. There is no visible evidence of what this man does for his outlandish DM or large school wage scale. That’s without knowing his annuities and other perks. His salary is public knowledge but his actions are not. He keeps information well away from the general public. We as a group should not have to seek out information. He’s overpaid. I can about guess what he does with a secretary and two helpers to do the work. Probably not very much, besides as the poster said, work at controlling the Board.

  3. And you are one to talk about logic.

  4. Anonymous on August 27, 2007 11:58 am
  5. Ohh.. Is that a dis at Nate? Please expand 11:24. Why doesn’t he have any logic?

  7. Hey, 10:26. I think you’re overpaid, even though I have no idea what you do. You just definitely seem overpaid.

Nate’s right, you know. Why would I want to sit around and justify my worth to a bunch of people who will bitch, moan, and pick me apart just like they do everything else (these same people who have already made up their minds about the matter, contrary to anything I may say)?

  9. I’m the poster from this morning. I should have explained my statement better. I should have said I have no idea what he does to earn as much as he does. Still the same thing? Sorry, as the previous poster says, how would we know what he does? No information is freely forthcoming from the school about anything. Board meetings are a total joke. They are done before the meeting is called to order. Bing, bang, boom. 7-0 on all votes, very little if any discussion, and they’re outta there. Mr. Broman called it management, I agree with another person and call it manipulation, not only of the Board, but of the public and the situation as a whole. If that makes him worthy of his salary, then we have a problem, WestCentralValley. Sorry, you feel that way Nate, I’ll try to be more concise when I post. I find my statement much more logical than the post saying the last vote passed because there was 50% Yes or that people wanting alternate sites are holding everything up and just not wanting a school and will vote NO on anything. Thanks for the blog site and the opportunity to voice opinions.

  11. OK, I’m not one of the group so I’ll shut up. I can take a hint. My feelings are still the same. It’s like a couple posts said. People are sitting around waiting for you to say something just not quite right and then jump all over you and try and do make you look foolish. Now please have fun with that. I assume you will.

  13. There are many comments that don’t make any sense, whether on purpose or not. Yours in particular just jumped out at me this morning and I wanted to make a point with it.

Expressing your feelings when writing is difficult. You don’t get to use hand gestures or facial expressions so it’s easy for someone else to get the wrong impression. That’s why all of us, myself included, need to be careful with the words we use and particularly how we arrange those words.

I appreciate all the comments I receive on The Good Egg Gazette. I just wish more readers would take a minute to take a step back and actually read what they wrote and reread what they’re responding to before they hit ’submit’.

  15. Broman called it managment. Now that is funny, I don’t care who you are.

  17. so nate you say that we shouldn’t judge whether or not he is worth the money because we don’t see what he does. on that note what about some of our stuart city workers, one in particular, we know what he does. he drives around in his pickup, snubs people and tries to look cool. now tell me he is worth the 40k+ a year that we pay him. i think that we should get rid of big bad bobby and hire jim h as the head guy and that renslow kid as his helper!

  19. Nate, we are out of common sense. Would you be interested in some knowledge?

  23. 2:52—what’s your beef with me?

  24. anonymous on August 27, 2007 7:59 pm
  25. anonymous on August 27, 2007 7:55 pm
That’s great, Tod, and I for one am willing to do that. However, I will not stand by and be called names, insulted and have things taken out of context to fit an East siter’s post. I am sick of their innuendo, their taking one little slip up and discrediting or trying to, someone with good intentions. I’m just like 4:39, bring it on and let’s point- counterpoint every idea and word. I’m sick of their not even wanting to consider an alternate site. Evidently from what you are saying, the board isn’t either, since you say we should write Rambo. I take it only the East site was talked about. Well, count me as a big NO. I feel like I’m being bullied right now, and, quite frankly, I don’t like it. No one does. So the bullying and the point-counterpointing will continue. Probably clear thru a number 7 defeat. It’s hard for me to fathom that the Board and Supt. doesn’t know about the talk of alternate sites. I’m not about to be bullied by a Supt. who will go public with about anything he can to get his way, RE: Hate group comments and article. I have no power to do anything. Our elected board members have been under his thumb now for as long as he has been here, with the board president’s approval. So why don’t I run for the school board, you ask? What can one person do? Answer, nothing. A waste of time and representation. Dexfield had a board member who tried to change things way back in whole grade sharing times. He got personally attacked, degraded and belittled at every turn. And with the Supt. at the time(Dean Turner’s) approval. Having attended several of those meetings, I felt sorry for the individual and it served to show me that one person has no chance of doing anything. The same would be true in this situation, I’m very sure. So come on East siter’s, I’m sure I said something stupid, ignorant or just showed I’m a total idiot in your opinion. You can’t give a good reason for the East site other than it is owned by the school. What IS it going to cost to get the sewer, etc. clear out there. Build a road, etc.? Versus a site in town? Tear me down, you’re excellent at it.
But I will play point-counterpoint and you better have your a$$ covered with every word you type. I’m not falling for you making me mad. I’m just going to turn the tables on your scheme. You can try to trap, to connive, to be typical elitist(you think) individuals, who have all the answers and can’t possibly understand why someone wouldn’t agree with you. Let’s bring the state in if that’s what you want. Then maybe you will get your way, but maybe you won’t. I want to build a school in Stuart and NOW. At either alternate site. So don’t give me the routine that I’m the reason there isn’t a school. Take my comments out of context. They will get thrown back at you, and your’s just may get taken out of context word by word as well. This is just what I would expect from the group who is so self-possessed with themselves they can see no intrinsic value in anything else but what runs thru their minds. I think we’ve all heard about everything before, so let me have it. You picked apart a good post, 6:22, from this morning. The person had a lot to say and made a lot of sense. Yet every little thing that could be was taken out of context and a big point tried to be made out of it. Every effort to belittle the individual was made including Nate taking a line out of context and making it the headline for his weekly recap. Evidently, he has been catching some flak for not speaking up. Deductive reasoning has to be used rather than strict logic, since information is not disseminated to the public. Knowledge requires being fed information. We get none of that from the school as a general public. I can only deduce that is by design. Logic takes knowledge and then orderly, rational, decisions made. Without knowledge, logic is not possible. So Arnold has this figured out, I can deduce that as well. The man isn’t dumb, however, he deserves to be described with many other adjectives. Most of them not of a positive note. So to repeat, come at me and others who post in favor of an alternate site or against the East site. Be prepared for it to get, let’s say not pleasant. You will be asked to back up every thought and word. Just as 6:22 was, and to a greater extent. How about some ideas East siters? How about some reasons? All we get from you is those not following you are ignorant and the cause of all the troubles. All we get is your constant siege of out of context remarks. Deductive reasoning has to preceed logic in this instance since knowledge is not made available. I, like many, don’t have the time to go thru “it’s DR. Arnold” when you call and ask to speak to the Supt. If this is secretive information, perhaps the Ombudsman needs to be called and alerted. I’m sure he would love to be pained with another situation with Arnold. Why don’t we get information sent to us? There’s a secretary and two helpers as I understand it. This is being proactive Tod, civility and common sense have been tried. 6;22 couldn’t have been more civil in my mind and they got torn into. Like you said ALL of us. Not one side. Enough rant, please feel free to attack me. Expect it in return.

  27. I know nothing about the superintendant or the previous poster, but there was one thing I thought was pretty funny/ridiculous. Does the superintendant really make people address him as “Dr.”? That’s some good stuff.

Nate, I have my doctorate so when i come to your bar this weekend, I demand you greet me with a “What can I get for you Dr. W?” On second thought, I guess the usual “What’s up queer?” will be just fine.

  28. anonymous on August 28, 2007 10:07 am
  29. ew, Just call the school and ask to talk with Mr. Arnold. You will be immediately corrected and informed that it is DR. Arnie!

  30. Joseph on August 28, 2007 10:36 am
  31. Oh Definately make sure that you call him Dr. You will be given sharp directions if you don’t. I wrote a letter to the editor last year, and when I addressed it to be sent to him, I received sharp criticism for not addressing it as DR. Arnold.

  32. ew on August 28, 2007 11:33 am
  33. Wow, that is pretty stupid. I understand he worked hard for his doctorate and I respect that. However, to insist people use the title is quite petty and certainly not a way to win favor in small town Iowa.

My personal opinion is that the only people that truly deserve the referral of Dr. are actual medical doctors.

  34. anonymous on August 28, 2007 12:59 pm
  35. Just a note: There’s some talk and effort starting to begin a write-in campaign for the school board elections. More to come.

  37. Big Deal he has his Doctorate!!! Credintials on the wall does not a smart man make!! This man has the personality of acid!!!

  38. anonymous on August 28, 2007 6:58 pm
  39. Wow, is that the truth! From his brawl at Saydel, to the hate group, to the emails, to the letter to Rambo, to his anger management classes, he is far from belonging in the educational environment. So big deal he’s got an EdD! That doesn’t make him special. It probably just means he couldn’t hack it as a teacher without getting into trouble and went into admin. for the $$$$$. Just a guess, but I think it fits. Personality of acid is the best way I’ve heard to describe him and his attitude. Perfect. His personality also suggests he isn’t about to listen to the public or anyone else. And they’re paying this guy how much??

  40. Anonymous on August 28, 2007 7:12 pm
  41. Someone has to know how much he is getting paid. the paper lists his salary last year as only $108,038.94. I would like to know how much and where they are hiding the rest. Maybe we need an audit. It also concerns me that MRS. Sloss was the acting principal at Dexter also last year at a combined salary of $76,842.51. How much do you think they are hiding for her in an annunity? She gets to keep that salary and she isn;t doing the job in Dexter this year. They gave ARNIE more big dollars to do that job. This just goes to prove our board has NO BUSINESS sense. You can better Mr Light would not run his trucking business or his Pizza joint this loosley. Sloss also got a raise in her contract for this year. What is wrong with this picture. Kids don’t have enough books for everyone yet we give enormous salaries to our bungling administrators!!!!

  42. Anonymous on August 28, 2007 7:43 pm
  43. Rather sad when good teachers, notice I said good as we have plenty of bad ones, don’t get raises for various reasons and then you look at the raises admins are getting like sloss and arnold, when they do so much less.

  44. anonymous on August 28, 2007 8:03 pm
  45. They will give you the sob, boo hoo story they have a 12 month contract. Well, excuse me. Those pieces of paper aren’t worth that much using any amount of imagination. What is wrong with this picture is the administration has the board under it’s thumb. You are totally right. Light wouldn’t run his businesses that loosely. Funny how the board forgets they were elected by the people to educate the kids. Not be lackeys for the administration. I believe MR. arnie got a $14000 annuity from reading the minutes. Funny how the minutes don’t tell hardly anything. Think MR. arnie has something to do with that? I do!! I had no idea Sloss was getting paid that much. Totally ridiculous. Totally. The good teachers should be getting about $25000 of that split between them and probably about $40000 of MR. arnies’ split between them. Also, I believe the admin. has free health insurance for their whole family, while the teachers have to pay out of pocket. Get your heads out of your butt’s board!!!

  46. Anonymous on August 28, 2007 9:09 pm
  47. Ya and when a teacher goes to our board secretary and wants to change their insurance to their spouse Lisa tells them can’t do that they will have to keep their benefits with the school. After checking wih the insurance agent the teacher corrected our OVER PAID board secretary and told her the agent said they could change their benefits. It is quite obvious that we are way overpaying Lisa also. Oh excuse me that is such OLD news!!!!

  48. Anonymous on August 28, 2007 10:09 pm
  49. Yeah Lisa is overpaid as well. She doesn’t have a clue what is going on.

  51. Please be thinking of some write-in candidates for school board. It’s clear no one wants to put themselves in the spotlight for fear of ridicule. But perhaps with a write-in they would be willing to step in and be a good board member versus what we have now.

  52. anonymooose on August 29, 2007 6:10 am
  53. It appears from what I keep hearing and what little I know, there needs to be a thorough house cleaning. Starting with the admin. and then the secretarial employees. I agree with write-in candidates, somehow this board needs a message sent to it that it’s not representing the wishes of the people who elected it. Arnold isn’t the one in charge. The board is. It’s serious stuff when the board was willing to pass on overinflated estimates last vote and expect the public to buy it. Now they are finally consulting with some professionals. Just what did the consultants they hired last time do, besides collect fees. And how about this female lawyer friend of Arnie’s? Where does she fit in the picture and how does she deserve the money she gets? I thought Engle was the lawyer. There appears to be so much waste and overinflated wages going on it is beyond comprehension. Only a change of the board, especially the president, and a majority of the others will send a true message the party is over and 1/2 hr. meetings don’t cut it. Arnie go home to Ankeny and kick your poor dog, destroy some things after your butt gets fired, quit kicking the people of the district. Personality of acid is THE perfect description of this guy!

  59. Isn’t it odd that 2 years ago we had one of the biggest school board election turn outs in WCV history because no one liked the school board. That election gave the east side a clear majority on the school board, and now those same people criticize this board. Some people will never be happy and are only happy trying to make everyone else miserable. If you are not willing to put your own head on the chopping block please don’t criticize those who do. These people take time away from their families to serve the public and make dicisions based on facts and not hear say. Sure they tend to agree with the administration in a meeting and tend to vote together, but I see that as a sign of a good working board. How do any of us know how much information is studied before the meeting so there is not any controversy, this is just good planning.

  60. anonymous on August 29, 2007 10:05 am
  61. No that is against the law! Making decision before the meeting as a board is against the freaking law. Things are to be discussed in a public forum and decisions made. Not before hand and not letting the public know. The administration is to make SUGGESTIONS for the board to consider at the meeting. Not tell them what to do or try to sell them. The board can ask questions, but they are to make decisions based on fact not just what the Supt. tells them. 7-0 votes on everything tells me the dog is wagging the tail. The tail being the board and the dog is arnie. That’s why a private quorum is illegal. There legally can’t be 4 board members in the same place discussing things only in an announced meeting. This is total BS. My guess is they just don’t want the public to know what is truly going on. That is our right to criticize the board. They should know that when they are elected. Instead they try to dodge everything. The last vote was really made on facts wasn’t it? The board had no idea the figures where way high. If they did they should go home and stay there. Who in the H$$l are you anyway, a member of a board member’s family? They don’t give any information, they overpay the admin. and the secretaries, they go back a 7th time to a failed site. I haven’t seen one thing they have done. Talk about Redfield and Dexter, that was done with the 1% sales tax. What else has happened? Just good planning!! What a joke of a statement. It’s against the law, when all 7 are in agreement before the meeting! You can argue around it but that’s the bottom line. So let’s hear your quote of the law which allows them to do that! I’m very interested in how that get’s done, legally! I know how it get’s done!

  63. 10:05 AM If they study their packet they get as well as the press gets a few days ahead of the meeting it makes for a good working board. This is what I was talking about. Sounds like you have some real issues to work out. Like I said before if they are so wrong then you should run for board. Who are you? Someone who didn’t get their way or used to work for the school and got fired, or maybe someone who ran for board and lost?

  64. Anonymous on August 29, 2007 10:32 am
  65. 10:18…10:05 is probably a taxpayer just like the rest of us and has every right to voice his/her opinion about the school adminstration. A agree with 10:05 comments.

  66. anonymous on August 29, 2007 11:56 am
  67. 10:18, Who are YOU? A secretary who’s supposed to be doing a job, but instead is online? How do you know about the packet if you’re not or are a member of the board or board’s family. It makes for a good working board because they get what the press gets??? Please explain. I am just what 10:32 said a taxpayer who is sick of this board and their actions and the Supt.’s actions. One can study the laws online. I might make a suggestion that you do. Study the IASB laws (that’s Iowa Association of School Boards)and you might get enlightened. If you are a secretary you should pack your bags and get out of there and let someone do the job they are supposed to be doing, not be online monitoring for arnie. The only real issues I have is they are breaking the law and not doing their job. They don’t inform the public, they don’t discuss matters at board meetings in a public forum, etc. Please quote me the law that allows them to that as asked.

  68. Anonymous on August 29, 2007 3:10 pm
  69. They are just like the city council in Stuart. They do just as they like until somebody stops them. You can’t bitch unless you are willing to do something about it. The whole lot of them, school board and council think they own things, or maybe I should say the people pulling the strings do. You can take that one to the bank!!

  78. anonymous on August 29, 2007 7:15 pm
  79. 5:09 How do you know she goes above and beyond what most principals do? Tell me how you know and some of the extra things she does, please! What does she do without credit. Credit meaning money? She already is vastly overpaid. What is the average # of students for someone getting her salary? How many does she supervise? What is she doing this yr. It was mentioned Arnold is the elem. principal in Dexter this yr. What is true? Do you know or just talking? Tell me the facts. Why are you so supportive? Are you her personal secretary? Why does she need a secretary? What does she do? Please enlighten all of us in a bipartisan manner.

  86. Anonymous on August 29, 2007 10:13 pm
  87. Sloss’s priority is to make sure the Menlo elementary appears to do better than the elementary students at Dexter. With more materials and updated computer technology the Menlo elementary will outshine the Dexter students.

  88. Anonymous on August 29, 2007 10:22 pm
  89. Teachers and administrators are evaluated. If the board evaluated our board secretary why did they give her a pay increase? Instead they should have given her walking papers.

  90. anonymous on August 30, 2007 6:13 am
  91. Totally agreed. But the way I understand it she has tenure and the only ones the Board can hire or fire without a fight is the Supt., I could be wrong. But I wish she would go somewhere else. That’s not going to happen when you have the deal here she has though.

  92. anonymous on August 30, 2007 9:55 am

  97. does anyone else feel that it is b.s. that dexter and redfield have renovated/new facilities and they are the main ones voting down a new facility in stuart. why is that?

  98. Anonymous on August 30, 2007 2:55 pm
  99. Sorry, they aren’t the main ones voting NO. I’m from Stuart and will continue to vote NO on the East Site. If they want a new HS in Stuart, try putting one of the alternative sites on the referendum ballot and stop wasting my tax money on the east site.

  100. anonymous on August 30, 2007 3:23 pm
  101. Same here. I’ve lived here since way before Stuart and Menlo went together. I’ll also continue to vote NO on the same East site. There are alternatives, they won’t even explore them as far as anyone knows. So as 2:55 says, put one of them on the ballot and it will pass and stop wasting money on the East site.

  102. anonymous on August 30, 2007 4:33 pm
  103. 1:36 needs to look CLOSER at the vote totals for the past six votes. It isn’t just Redfield and Dexter voting it down!

  104. Anonymous on August 30, 2007 4:42 pm
  105. But the majority of Stuart votes for it.

  106. anonymous on August 30, 2007 4:52 pm
  107. A few from Stuart thought if Redfield & Dexter got newer facilities the NO people might support a new high school in Stuart. From reading the comments I don’t think that will happen as long as the board keeps throwing out the same proposal. Bottom line people are still not happy how the land was purchased just before the two boards dissolved. Although many don’t agree the money the Dexfield board spent to purchase new windows did benefit the students by protecting them from the rain & snow over the years. What has the land on the east side of Stuart done to benefit the students or the district? Not a thing. Sell it and find a different piece of land. Until then it will never pass!

  108. anonymous on August 30, 2007 5:56 pm
  109. 4:52 is exactly right and has a very profound post. Not only was the ground purchased to spite Dexfield, the Dexfield and even the Menlo people got their noses rubbed in it. That’s something that doesn’t go away. It isn’t going to go away. Even if a referendum passes for that site there will always be hard, bitter feelings. Personally, I feel there is a better alternative site. That being South of the athletic fields. No one is talking anywhere but Stuart anymore. This thing is ready to pass if the Board wises up and gives us a different site. Until then, like 4:52 says, it will never pass. I’m hoping that happens(a different site), but I’m sure not holding my breath that it will. I see another referendum at the same site and with the same result. We’ve got support for having the school, Stuart, can’t we give in a little and compromise on a different site? Are we that hard headed? That attitude will probably get us no where. How would we like it if the tables were turned? We would have NEVER voted for anything and we all know it. As a matter of fact, Redfield has room on the East side of the ground over there. We would have NEVER EVER voted for it. This East site at Stuart has done us nothing but harm. We have gotten no good out of it. The supposed ’smart’ guys who bought it never thought ahead. They just wanted to get even and spend money and say they had land for a school. I’m from Stuart, and I’ll continue to vote NO unless the site is changed. It’s not the right site.

  110. american on August 30, 2007 9:51 pm
  111. I’m seeing some people from Stuart can think for themselves, but there are a lot that still can’t vote until someone tells them how to vote. That is the only reason so many have voted yes. I talked to so and they said “well I guess we need a new school” and that is their reason to vote.

  112. Anonymous on August 30, 2007 11:04 pm
  113. During the time of concurrent action when Stuart wanted to kick Redfield out of the district: At a board meeting the board was asked to apologize to the town of Redfield and there was discussion about selling the land in Stuart. If the board would have voted to sell the land at that time and decided on a different site; I imagine construction and completion of a new high school would be near!

  114. anonymous on August 31, 2007 6:25 am
  115. 11:04 I didn’t know about that. I believe if they had a new school probably already would be up and going. It just shows how 5:56 said. They rubbed peoples’ noses in it. That’s really a way to get along isn’t it? Now Arnold doesn’t want to talk about the past. Well, I believe he had better start or he won’t ever get anything done. Build South of the athletic fields. Have a huge majority victory and make the papers in a positive way, let alone get a new building. I truly believe it is that simple. Now people are getting the feeling this board and Supt. are rubbing their noses in it. The same thing over and over. We aren’t children or your’s to step on. Treat us right and give us what we want and it will pass overwhelmingly. I would bet the farm on it.

  116. american on August 31, 2007 10:16 am
  117. Wouldn’t it be nice if they had someone that could get the school website completed and kept up to date? And wouldn’t it be nice if the didn’t have Spring Break so they kids could either start after Labor day or be reasonably assured of getting out before Memorial day? Why do they have spring break anyway?

  118. Anonymous on August 31, 2007 1:06 pm
  119. The have it for teachers and teachers only! Good grief, the kids just get over the Christmas holiday and they are already let out for another break. As far as that goes, kids are bored 2 months into summer vacation, so there ya go. Why spring break? for the adults.

  120. american on August 31, 2007 4:13 pm
  121. I was told on more than one occasion the teachers didn’t want the spring break either. What ever happened to Good Friday off and then back to school the day after Easter?

  122. to all peg lovers: on September 1, 2007 11:38 am
  123. if you noticed the eloquently written letter in the guthrie center times from the infamous peggy schlichter in response to her idol “young mr. coe’s” letter. you will see she hates wcv teachers. she said they failed to teach him. she is saying wcv has failed to teach students. but she also CUT OUT part of his letter to the editor so she could compare him to a dictator. kind of funny she would do that. only a dictator or wanna-be dictator would cut out someone’s entire thought. peggy - when were these tactics last used? they were last used in nazi germany!

  124. Anonymous on September 1, 2007 11:49 am
  125. Was Peg scared to put that into the Herald? Must have been. Funny considering she has no problems voicing opinions about other stuff. Seems like she only likes to tell things she knows her audience will be responsive to. How embarassing for WCV… especially considering it’s in the GC Times. All of our neighboring schools have probably read that.

  133. You’re right with the site South of the athletic fields, it will pass hands down.

  134. remember on September 2, 2007 2:55 pm
  135. 12:46 - I thought the 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th time was supposed to be the charm. This board most likely not put a passible plan in front of the voters. I think the voting public is already very polarized anyway. It might be for the best if all 7 “non-representative” elected officials all resign soon. Also overpaid administration people should leave as well (super, all principles, and office staff). Only then will and can we build a bridge of trust between our communities in our district, without the few that use their supposed power and other available resources to wrongfully and probably “I cannot say” drag people around. Stand up like Peggy or others, but be prepared to be “blacklisted” at the minimum or drug thru the mud, some people are scared and are very careful who they talk to or around. This new H.S. may be more than a longshot away if big changes don’t occur and that one day if ever it is built. There are deep scars that won’t heal quickly, many and not a few are mad as h***, don’t blame the no voters, a town, a group, look at yourself in the mirror, do you like what you’re looking at or not?

  141. I happen to agree with 6:26 and 2:55. I feel it’s people like you 3:48, who are the hold-up and the continued little comments that piss people off. Explain wrong. Don’t just say a blank statement like that to inflame people. It doesn’t work in your favor. It just makes more people mad and others more set in their opinion. So in retrospect, keep saying things like that. Thank you.

  142. orange peel on September 3, 2007 7:03 am
  143. 3:48 your comment just shows it’s your way or not at all. It’s what many have been saying for a long, long time now. So push your coveted East site. Watch it fail again. If it does somehow pass, there will still be those deep-seated feelings, but you really don’t care do you? You can’t do anything but give one word replies. It shows you have no substance, no plan, no ideas, just that you want your own way. There must be something in it for you. Did YOU look in the mirror today as 2:55 said? Did YOU like what you saw? But then you don’t even get it so I’m not wasting one more second on you.

  144. Anonymous on September 3, 2007 7:07 pm
  145. I’m a farmer in this district and I have heard enough about how the farmers don’t want the kids to have a new high school. That is so far from the truth. Another truth few people know or fail to pay attention to is how this is being forced upon the farmers backs to pay for. My farm land that I have worked my entire life for is my savings for when I can retire. Now if you want to tax the IPERS of Todd Broman or the 401K of Gene Martin and have them pay on their savings as well that that should not be a problem to get the next bond passed!! If you are going to bring back the enourmous bids for the TOO LARGE SCHOOL then get set for defeat #7. I don’t mind paying my fair share but mine and every WHINER in the district is too much!!!

  146. anonymous on September 3, 2007 11:13 pm
  147. I actually agree with 3:48. This poster may have only said one word, but it often times no use saying more, because nobody listens or cares anyways. 7:03- The person that 3:48 was responding to seemed to be reflecting that their position was that it is their way or nothing at all. So keep taking sides and trying to throw accusations at one person, while the person that you are in support of is just as hell-bent on getting their own way as anyone else is.

  148. orange peel on September 4, 2007 7:11 am
  149. I’m a farmer too, 7:07 and know just what you’re saying. We seem to get blamed for everything. I would love to see the other vote Yes for anything crowd have their retirement funds raided and raped. They would change their tunes really quickly. People say “you don’t have to farm so much ground and have all that big equipment”. That just shows how tight the margins are and they can’t understand that. Bottom line is they don’t want to understand that, as they stuff themselves with food. They pay less % of income for food than anyone in the world but still bitch and moan. They seem jealous that we have to be this big to survive. I want a new HS built in Stuart at a reasonable cost and not at the East site. It is not the right site. 11:13, I happen to agree totally with 2:55. Your taking the one word response as being productive is nonsense. It’s really you or 3:48 who is hell-bent on getting their own way. One word responses inflame and shouldn’t because it just shows the lack of desire to even state your opinion and probably means you are just following your leader. Doing whatever they tell you to do. Or else, you really can’t state your opinion because you know it’s not the right one or are incapable ot doing so. Back to farmers and taxes. I’m glad I don’t live in Dallas Co. from what I’ve heard. We work all our lives to build something and have it wittled away at by every thing that gets passed. So I agree, let’s see some contributions out of those retirement funds from everyone else. Not only do the older guys have 401k’s, most have pension plans on top of those. Now someone give me the legalese retirement funds. Active farmers are fully invested, we don’t have extra money to put into retirement funds. So count your blessings we are here. You can bet when corporate farming is here in another generation, your kids will be paying for a new school by themselves. Because corporate farming will tell you uh uh, cause by then they will have the property tax structure changed to where it should be. So take those stocks and bonds and pay a portion of those for a new school as we have to our land.

  151. We need to start looking at the West edge of Stuart for a building site. With the ethanol plant being built there, that area is going to grow. It would also keep Menlo a little closer to the school. I am sure there is land in that area that could be bought or do an exchange for the land we own, and build there. It would be a nice neutral site and would solve all the site problems.
We could sell the East site land and the land would be bought by the current board, so we would get over the who bought the East site land issue once and for all.

  152. anonymous on September 5, 2007 6:11 am
  153. Do you have any specific ideas? Would like to hear them.

  154. Anonymous on September 5, 2007 8:04 am
  155. No, nothing specific. But if others think it is worth considering, it could be checked out. There is no sense looking very far into it, just to be shot down right away.

  156. anonymous on September 5, 2007 9:34 am
  157. I know what you’re feeling, but please if you have some specific area or ideas, everything is worth thinking about. That could appease Menlo people and get things passed. I’m one who doesn’t think a referendum will pass at the East site. Your reasoning about the ethanol plant makes sense and there certainly is open, flat area. Also, the feelings about the East site ground would be gone like you said. Please comment further.

  158. Anonymous on September 5, 2007 8:01 pm
  159. I do not have the knowledge needed or time to pursue but someone could sure check with those that would know and see if a site would work.
Property owners will usually sell, as long as they are getting a good price for their land. And there area alot of people wanting to do an exchange on land to save tax dollars.
I just would like someone to pursue checking out a site in that area.
I do think Menlo feels like they are left out alot and this would definately be good for them.

  160. Anonymous on September 6, 2007 8:14 pm
  161. All I am reading is about a NEW HIGH SCHOOL!!! Our board spent $4,000.00 to do a study on the Menlo school and the studycame back saying that is where the most immediate need is. Get our kids out of that school,. But all I am reading is a new High School in Stuart. It only proves one thing!!! It is all about a building and all about Stuart!!!!!

  162. Anonymous on September 7, 2007 7:51 am
  163. If the kids need to be removed from the Menlo building, where are they to go? You have to look at buildings.

  164. American on September 7, 2007 2:27 pm
  165. I’d like to know what was on the report that cost a measly $4000 to study the Menlo School. It is the most sturdy of all the buildings we have, including the new Redfield site.

  166. Anonymous on September 7, 2007 6:33 pm
  167. There are more issues than how sturdy a building is.
What about mold issues and the issues with the kitchen.

  168. Anonymous on September 9, 2007 9:27 pm
  169. The more I think about a district wide elementary in Dexter is the only way to go. This eliminates excess buildings and all the elementary would be under 1 roof. Lets get moving on this.

  170. Anonymous on September 9, 2007 10:04 pm
  171. I’d vote for a district wide elementary in Dexter. It would stop a lot of the duplication of services and save us taxpayers some money.

  172. Anonymous on September 10, 2007 1:58 am
  173. If there isn’t a new highschool in Stuart, then the district wide elementary should be there.

  174. Anonymous on September 13, 2007 8:26 pm
  175. Who said the high school wont be in Stuart?? DUH!! We were talking about the most urgent need the Menlo building. Get those kids out of there and into a district wide elementary. Build the hs in stuart somewhere that hasn’tfailed 6 times already and lets move on!
