Good Egg Days weekend

June 19, 2006 |

It was a whirlwind for sure so bear with me if this is a little random or unorganized. Saturday morning started with the 5K Walk/Run at 8:00. There were 45 participants in the field with about half walking and half running. I managed to claim the gold medal in my age division, and my uncle Pat won his division as well. I finished 44th overall, a split second ahead of Pat. I’ll take it though. My athletic accomplishments are few and far between at this point.

After a quick break, I returned to the park for the 3-on-3 basketball tournament where chaos and miscommunication were rampant. Whoever decided to list the tournament in the newspaper schedule apparently forgot to tell the guys it listed as being in charge. But the tournament rolled on with 7 teams and aside from a few sore muscles I don’t think anybody broke any bones or anything. I’d call that a success. A few talent show performances on the stage finished up the afternoon at the park and everyone headed home to get ready for the real entertainment of the weekend, the street dance with Stone Thro.

As always, the band was exceptional. There was a great turnout and hopefully the bars made some good money Saturday night. A few things stood out to me about the night.
1) The bar outside was a genius idea. It was great at keeping congestion down.
2) The breakfast at town hall was another genius idea. Why can’t I think of things like this?
3) Unfortunately, the jello-wrestling at Johnie’s never really took off. That could have been a perfect addition to the night.

Sunday’s alumni baseball game was hurt by more miscommunication but around 15 or so guys fought off their hangovers and dusted off their bats gloves and managed to get some swings and take some infield. I threw to a few hitters and was surprised to see that I could still get the ball over the plate. I threw almost as hard as I did in school so either I’m still really good now or I was never that good in the first place. My guess is for option B.

Overall, I had a great weekend and most everyone else I talked to had a good time as well. Good Egg Days weekend is a great time to catch up with old friends or if you’re adventurous enough it’s a perfect time to make some new ones. I look forward to doing it all again next year.
