Goodbye to The Voice

August 26, 2005 |

I’d only been receiving The Voice for a year or so but I have to say I’m a little sad to see it go. It was always refreshing to read/hear their take on things, if only because it was often the opposite opinion of the majority of Stuart, or rather the vocal majority. Who do we count on now to keep the mayor and the rest of the council in line? Or are they the ones that keep everyone else in line? I forget…

Speaking of newspapers, what does everyone think of the Herald now? Is it better or worse since the Taylors returned to action? There are just a couple of concerns I have, only one of which actually concerns the paper. Problem one is a certain young writer who I’m sure means well but I wonder sometimes what’s going on in his head. Is it really that important to the readers if Wal-Mart rearranges its electronics department? For someone with editorial responsibilities, surely there are better things to write about. How about summer jobs for students at Wal-Mart? Or how Wal-Mart smothers small businesses and changes the way of life in small towns? Surely there are issues he can relate to that might have an impact in Stuart. But enough of that…my bigger concern is the lack of people writing letters to editor. I know that every person in Stuart isn’t living in Utopia. Let’s get our issues out in the open and maybe, hopefully, God willing, we might be able to find a solution. Communication…let’s try it.

Ok, enough ranting…until next time…

  1. Yeah the article about Wal-Mart was more or less retarded. Plus, most Wal-Marts I am in are set up pretty much the same, so… whatever.

  3. I am very positive about the active involvement of Alan Taylor at the Stuart Herald again. Although Alan and I have often disagreed on some things over the years, I find him a great source of intellectual stimulation. I see gains at the Herald and am passionate about the role a small town newspaper must play in community and government activities.
Really appreciate your blog and we need to make sure Stuart residents or former residents find it.

  5. Thanks Bob! I hope I can provide a little intellectual stimulation as well, or at least give people a little different perspective on things.

  9. I would like to compliment the sports coverage in the Stuart Herald and really appreciate the work of Steve Glen. I do not make it to any high school events so I keep up from the Herald. The coverage is as broad and detailed as any time I have read the Herald, which has been over 40 years now. You get my kudos Steve.

  11. I’m a big fan of Steve’s, both the coach and the writer. I just keep waiting for him to ask me to throw some BP or take some no-look passes in practice sometime!
