Is Stuart a possible site for Microsoft?
July 2, 2008 |
I mentioned this back in February, but could Microsoft land in Stuart? They’re weighing a few options in the Des Moines area for a data farm where they’ll employ about 100 high-tech workers at an average salary of $70,000.
Wouldn’t this be a good thing for Stuart? What can we do to make this a possibility?

civic minded council and mayor, tax perks, more affordable housing (our houses aren’t made out of gold people), more land annex (would be a big complex), better school relations and less in-fighting, consistent and well trained police department (you had one, bye ron and dave) with a real police chief that was good at his job, not just good at glad-handing, the citizens of stuart actually have to be welcoming and nice to folks who don’t have six generations of their family name rooted here. has anyone seen the movie funny farm with chevy chase - rent it - that is stuart, ia
To make this a reality, Stuart better quickly build about 5-10 electrical substations at $50 million per station. That will help make this happen, which is why they are considering Des Moines. They have closer to what is needed for electric generation capacity.
MidAmerican is likely to get the project, so Warren Buffet will have to invest a lot to make this happen. It will hurt initially, but years later should pay off.
Stuart can’t even supply the fast food places with qualified work force, and you think there are people smart enough to earn 70K? Dream on.
What are you guy’s smoking? They will NEVER come to this dump of a town this town is so messed up right down to the library
This town has an issue running itself. There is no way to even expect Microsoft to look at Stuart. There is so much fiber that would need to be pulled into Stuart its not even funny. Their diversity(fiber wise) would exclude Stuart right away. The new school took so long to get approved, why would they look at Stuart now ?? Approve that school back when it came up and who knows.. All those complaining back then now see what it has cost them…It takes $$ to make $$..
Stuart doesnt have the workforce or the money to bring Microsoft here. More than likely will end up in WDSM.
People of Stuart need to take pride in their town, if stuart is such a bad place to be then why do you live there? I truly believe Stuart will grow and has alot of potential for opportunity. As far workforce for Microsoft, you will bring college graduates to town which would help Stuart alot in growing.
Actually, we do have the workforce. They just happen to travel to dsm for jobs at this time. If a job was available of what they are making working at insurance companies. hospitals and clinics, what would stop them from working right in town if the chance were given. I would jump at the opportunity.
I am one of the people that commute to Des Moines to work at an insurance company and yes, I too would jump at the chance to work in town making the income I do in Des Moines.
“People of Stuart need to take pride in their town, if stuart is such a bad place to be then why do you live there?”
That’s like saying, “Why do people live in North Dakota instead of southern California? It’s not that black and white. The majority of Stuart citizens wouldn’t live here without such variables as jobs, cost of living, families, etc. It’s proximity to West Des Moines and I-80 are the only good things this town has going for it. And don’t give me the same old ‘friendly ppl, rural Iowa feel’ blah blah blah crap. You can find that anywhere. A good school system is the main selling point for towns like Stuart, and last I checked we don’t have anything close to resembling good.
