Microsoft in Stuart?
February 12, 2008 |
According to today’s Register, Microsoft is considering Iowa as a location for a new high-wage data center.
The column said this: Microsoft has said it must have a good supply of energy, water, workers and certain fiber optics. So the location would have to be near a power plant, have an available network of “dark fiber,” have a substantial water supply, and be along an interstate, Shomshor said.
That sounds kind of like Stuart doesn’t it? Wassau and the Americinn could use a new neighbor.

Yeah, Stuart’s Power Plant, funny.
Yeah Nate, I bet Stuart is getting top consideration. What are considered “high wages” in Stuart? $5.75/hr plus tips?
Maybe Microsoft could demolish all of the decrepit houses and buildings (i.e. the entire town) and burn the rubble for their power needs.
Jeez, nothing like pissing on my dreams and shitting on my hopes.
I’m surprised Microsoft would even consider Iowa. Didn’t we just sue them last year?

That is no joke. It pissed me off when that happened. They make good software at what I think is a fair price.
So the guy had a great idea, made a great company, made a boat load of money because of it, and then gets sued right and left for having a monopoly. It is rather unfourtunate.
If someone thinks they can make something better, go for it. It has to be better to get people to switch though. It can’t do the same damn thing.
pissing & shitting, wow Nate, spoken like a true professional!
Ever wonder why they call it Sturt? dumb asses, anyway. You eat your young for breakfast. All Nate was doing was talking positive, and you all do what you do best. You must be one lot of unhappy individuals. Now, shit on my comment. Go ahead.
SHIT, SHIT, SHIT!!!!
You people are so negitive. I do wonder why Microsoft would consider expanding their operations in Iowa. The Iowa courts just demanded them to pay millions to the nice folks that filed a class action suit against them. If they are considering coming here, I would guess they would probably locate in a more urban setting. I don’t doubt that Stuart would have enough power, but water I doubt it. The ethanol plant will be using all of that. And as far as workers, who knows? And for those of you that question whether Stuart would be able to supply enough power, have you forgotten the wind turbine? And how about the ice storms we had 10 years ago? We had power while nobody else did.(including Des Moines and it’s suburbs.) A lady that I worked with lived in the country. She and her family moved into the Americinn for 10 days just so they could have lights and heat. So we shouldn’t be so quick to put second guess Nate’s dreams. Maybe Bill Gates won’t hold a grudge.
Remember that it was the greedy lawyer Roxanne Colin who made the money from this lawsuit against Microsoft. Stuart would be the perfect choice for the new office location.
I think the IQ level of Stuart needs to rise a bit before anyone thinks about attempting to build a business here. Other businesses have resorted to hiring retirees rather than young ones because of their responsibility. I don’t think the retirees would get along with a Microsoft gig.
[…] mentioned this back in February, but could Microsoft land in Stuart? They’re weighing a few options in the Des Moines area […]
