My new cyberneighbor
August 20, 2006 | 7 Comments
I was introduced to a new blog the other day, and I must say I’m completely addicted to it. In just a few short days it has accomplished what I’ve been trying to do for about a year…stir up a little controversy and develop a dialogue.
The most amusing part of the whole thing is the people who are so hateful and negative about it. They claim to hate the authors and their writing styles but at the same continue to read the posts and leave comments, all the while hiding behind the friendly ‘Anonymous’ tag. It’s always these ‘Anonymous’ folks who so vehemently deny everything, and it kind of makes you wonder what they’re really hiding.
If you disagree with a post (and this goes for all bloggers), please make an intelligent response. Don’t say the site sucks because the writers are gay, or because they got fired from their last newspaper job, or because they might be friends with the chief. And please try to pretend like you can read and write past a 2nd grade level.
I’ve never met the either of the two authors, nor have I had any conversations with them, aside from a few blogger comments back and forth. I don’t think any of us still live in Stuart, though I can tell you without a doubt that we all care deeply about the place I still call home. But I have to say, I think we’re on the same page as far as wanting to know what’s really going on in town. I for one am happy to welcome The Independent Eye to Stuart’s neck of the cyberwoods. And if I’m lucky, maybe I can ride on their coattails a while and turn my little Gazette into something actually worth reading.

Nate,
I gotta tell ya – you are very articulate and have a great writing style, imho. It’s what I would call “conversational”, and flows well. I have lamented in the past WCV’s apparent inability to produce any relatively literate people.
It is frustrating, I agree, but I’ve learned that you’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t, so you might as well go ahead and rile ‘em.
I don’t live IN Stuart, but my children attend WCV. I figure I have as much right as anyone else to speak my piece.
Hang tough, keep up the good work, and we’ll see you around the ‘hood.
Maybe we should have a block party.
Wow, I just tried to read through the blog on Susan and Ann’s page and it blows my mind that there are such childish people out there. Those people can talk trash but aren’t brave enough to show their name, that’s pathetic. It makes me feel sorry for them in a way that they have nothing better to do than secretly bitch about things. I’m with you Nate, that blog could be addicting!
Blogging is totally addicting. I wasn’t a big blogger until we made one, although I’ve read a lot about blogs in the news. The new generation of grassroots journalism is what they’re saying. Could be. It gives a lot of people a forum who possibly SHOULDN’T have one, but it also is an opportunity for everyone to speak their minds, which must be good, right?
Thanks for visiting The Eye. We appreciate it. Post, Elli…
Hey, Nate. Long time, no talk (not that we ever really did). It’s been what, 13 years? I doubt you remember me. That’s ok though.
My reason for being here is this:
After hearing so much talk, I finally decided to check it out. Today was my very first and last trip to the “Independent Eye” blog.
I must agree with the person who said your blog is better. At least you seem to wait until you have all the facts before you post, or so it appears to me. The newest Stuart blog is very much like a tabloid magazine. I feel like the Bat Boy or Nazi UFO’s should be showing up soon as headline news articles. It appears to be a lot of gossip and half stories.
I must admit, I don’t like the creators of the “Independent Eye,” but I have my reasons. There’s no need to go into them here though. While I don’t agree with their methods of “news” reporting, some people who’ve posted comments on that site DO have valid points and valid concerns that I agree with. Unfortunately, one has to wade through a lot of BS to get to it.
Overall, in MY opinion, the “Independent Eye” is kind of a waste of time. I won’t be going back. Keep the news coming on the Good Egg Gazette, however, and I will return.
Manda, do you have DIRT on Anne and Susan???? DO TELL! I would LOVE to hear it! I have some dirt of my own, but you first!
If you are going to dish about me, darlings, please have the courtesy to spell my name properly…it’s Ann; no “e”. Geesh, can’t any of you Stuart gossip hounds spell correctly? ‘Nite.
Hey, Nate, I almost forgot — thanks for all the positive comments you have added about our blog. Like Susan said, you are, indeed, very articulate and have a great writing style. If not a block party, perhaps the three of us could have lunch sometime and talk about what else but…blogging! You know, I think I might have written a story about your dad when I worked for The Herald…
