http://whotv.com/Global/story.asp?S=5800307 (I recommend the video)

We made the top story on Channel 13 tonight. Like someone commented earlier, I doubt this is doing much to change the perception that many in the Des Moined metro area have of Stuart. A little over a year ago, we discussed a story the Des Moines media covered about some kids in Stuart who were caught drinking. It was mentioned then that people in the Metro could easily have a distorted view of what life in Stuart is really like because of the media’s constant focus on the negative. Well, you can go ahead and mark this one down in the negative column too.

I’ll admit, I got caught up in the sensationalism and the back-and-forth as much as anybody. It’s like when you’re driving down the road and you see a wreck, you can’t help but stare. But now isn’t the time to stare idly out the window; now’s the time to act and to figure out what to do with our wreck. Maybe we need to just scrap it and start anew. Or maybe there’s really just a little dent and we can fix it.

Either way, this story isn’t going to fade away quietly into the night. At some point questions will have to be answered. One big question remains, however. How can we fix this?

  1. Andy, you are such a punk and a loser. Go play in the street, dude. Smoke some more crap, and make up something else about someone else, cuz your fiction is getting a little old!

  3. Larry marsh is my uncle and we visited him a month ago in prison. And I asked him if he knew Paige, he just laughed, He then went on to say that Paige hired him to beat up some guy in Des Moines for a thousand dollars, and my uncle did. It ended up being the wrong guy. He also said that they were in the drug business together… Facts coming from my own uncle in prison… Glad to see that Paige is selling his stuff. A big plus to the town of Stuart.

  5. Nate, with all the libelous comments left on your blog, I would SERIOUSLY consider putting an end to the anonymous replies.

I don’t know whether or not you could be held responsible…but with the comments that some of these people are leaving, I sure wouldn’t chance it.

It may be worth looking into anyway.

  7. Thank you for the comment Mr. Bump.

  9. Nate, you need to just not allow some of these comments to be published at all. This is going beyond bounderies to allow people like this to just blow without fact, even if they say they heard it, saw it, etc. It is still intended to do harm, and is very libelous. To allow someone to slander anyone on an internet blog just isn’t good for anyone. There are so many lies now, it is over the top. Stop the madness. You have the power to do it.

  13. anonymous @ 11:59 PM, if I was Mr. Bump, I’d have this handled by now.

I just don’t want to see Nate get in any trouble.

Do a little research about bloggers being held liable for the comments left anonymously on their blogs.

Why do you think newspapers require letters to the editor to be signed?

  15. Why are you complaining about people leaving anonoymous comments whe you do it yourself?

  17. Andy:
    1. Have you considered old man Wilbur didn’t sell his sons that building because he was sick of them mooching off him. If he had sold it to one of them he knew it’d be HIS money paying for it.

    2. So, the only reason Paige is investing money is because he’s still a druggie? I guess, by that logic, all the other people investing in Stuart must be in the drug business too. The Quail Run project backers MUST de dealers because they are actually building houses here. HERE in STUART! I mean, there is NO WAY anyone could actually see the potential this town has, especially outsiders.

Oh, and let’s not forget the Marks’ and Shephard’s. They have been buying, fixing up, and selling houses in town for YEARS. That’s an OBVIOUS front for their drug trade. I can’t believe they are getting away with that!

(Andy, that’s sarcasm in case you aren’t smart enough to get it.)

    3. You sure didn’t have a problem with Paige and him buying property when you LIVED in one of his buildings. It’s only when you were evicted that you got a bee up your ass. Can’t take rejection well?

  19. anonymous @ 2:56 p.m., look up the word complaining.

Let it soak in for 5 minutes.

    Then talk.

  21. He had no problems when bump owned it. the problems started when paige bought it. It tells me alot about stuart when there are people sticking up for a person like paige? wow!

  23. I agree with the last comment, everyone wants to give a “2nd chance” to him, however, bet their minds change after their kids start getting drugs dealt to them, then we’ll hear them talk. Also this 2nd chance business–are these people giving rapist, molesters, murderers 2nd chances–I think not.

  31. I say we hire the rock to be the town chief. I would love to see him hit paige with a 4 x 4 club

  33. I live in Osceola where Rayburn was a police officer. Everyone I know disliked her. We were glad to see her go. She got away with things for years that citizens thought she should have gotten fired for.

  34. Nate Westre on January 3, 2007 12:07 pm
  35. Why did everyone you know dislike her? What was she getting away with?

  36. Anonymous on January 3, 2007 3:51 pm
  37. anonymous in osceola please say what the chief did. we need to know. there is a lot going on right now.

  39. Speaking of checkered pasts, anyone ever check out Brehmer’s past work history? Rayburn’s gone so who cares what she did in Osceola. That’s ancient history. What makes Brehmer chief material?

  40. Anonymous on January 4, 2007 7:45 am
  41. I didn’t know Brehmer was a candidate for chief. Where’d you come up with that one?

  42. Anonymous on January 4, 2007 10:06 am
  43. yeah, right…

  44. Anonymous on January 4, 2007 10:26 am
  45. ya think TC had those brehmer for chief Buttons made for no reason?

  46. Anonymous on January 4, 2007 1:07 pm
  47. Well genius, I think all that went out the window with everything else. I agreed with TC that Brehmer would have been better and more competant than Carol and I still do. But I no longer think he’s chief material for this town and I doubt TC thinks so still. But, if it comes out he’s not guilty, then maybe my feelings will change once again.

  48. Anonymous on January 4, 2007 6:12 pm
  49. did tc really have those made or were they made by breahmer?
