Symantha Crawford will be the school’s new business manager. I’m not positive but I believe she’ll have to resign her school board position. Special election anyone?

Thank you Shirley!

  1. She resigned at the meeting prior to being offered a contract by the district.

  7. Hopefully she is qualified and we won’t have a situation like our previous business manager.

  11. I would like to know how many people applied and how many were interviewed? Also weird that she resigned then was offered this job? The town of STUART IS SCREWED UP

  13. If you feel you have the “need to know” about this decision, then call a Board member or Dr. Arnold and ask. Symantha Crawford is a very intelligent, highly capable individual with qualifications that are appropriate to the position. I think it is great that the district has hired someone who has roots here, has a strong interest in the success of this school system, and cares about the communities involved.

Could we just look at the positives for once on this decision instead of always concentrating on the negatives?

Those of you who feel that this is a mistake – amazing that you have nothing substantial to back up your concerns. Do you even know Symantha?

I do not know Samantha very well but do know that she is extremely smart and very capable and CARES about her kids and the WCV school and kids.
She left a very good job to take this one and I think she will do a good job at it.
    Good luck Samantha.

  17. I agree with the comments made by 11:32 am.
I believe it is Symantha, not Samantha.

  19. I have high hopes for Symantha to do a good job. After all she cared enough to be on the board. Yes it seems an “odd” timing, but Shirley has a great opportunity to work closer to home. She will be very missed especially since she is just getting things fixed from the previous joke of a board secretary. Hopefully Symantha will be knowledgeable about all the clean up that Shirley has done. I know it is a long process because the previous “huge” mistake left us in quite the pickle… wonder how her new district is enjoying the “fruits” of her.

  21. Are we still suffering from the mistakes of Lisa? Shirley didn’t get it all cleaned up, is that what you are saying? I had two dealings with Shirley and I thought she was incredibly professional. She found my answer and called me right back. She was a great asset. Since Nate said something positive about her that must mean Rose liked working with her too. Too bad we lose all the good ones, but the bad ones we almost have to fire to get rid of.

  23. I figured Rochelle would want the job? I myself think Rose would be good when ever I call up there she answers and is very helpful.

  25. I am sure Rochelle would have got it if she wanted it. But then her and Arnie wouldn’t be side by side all day long then and I don’t think either one of them would have like that.

  31. Another loss for the football team. Again, the penalties are killing them.
One getting alot of penalties got kicked out for a little while by the coach while Mom and Dad carried on in the stands. It really irritates me to hear a Senior cussing, yelling at the coach, throwing his helmet and having a fit in front of the whole crowd. But after hearing and seeing his parents, you know exactly where the kid is coming from.
It would be great if the underclassmen had good role models with the Seniors but they won’t get it from this years seniors.
Maybe next year’s will be better.

  33. suspend the kid for one or two games. could this be a violation of the good conduct policy? I think it very well could be.

  34. Anonymous on October 4, 2008 6:20 pm
  35. I agree….I think it was ridiculous that they let him play in the 2nd half. He should have been done just like the head coach said he was supposed to be. Who let him go back in???

  36. Anonymous on October 4, 2008 6:49 pm
  37. gabe put him back in. jennings is the head coach and he is utimetly responsible for the conduct of his players and coaches.

  39. resignation handed in by secretary of board.
two weeks later closed session interview of apps for new one, Crawford resigns board and is hired all at same meeting. ????

  41. I know, it doesn’t appear to be to ethical. The board and supt. arnold may be within the limits of the law, however conflicts of interest, appearances of impropriety, insider information, all resemblances of favoritorism, seem to be at work here. I wonder how impartial the board was during crawford’s interview.

The bottom line is you hire the best person for the job. Does Crawford have any experience as a board secretary/business manager? I don’t think so. Ideally, a person in this capacity will have several years of experience plus a degree with a background in accounting. Craford does have a degree, but no experience. Again, you hire the best person for the job.

This board and boards in the past have had no problem spending tax payers dollars. If craford declared herself as a candiate, the board and all those involved should have excused themselves from the interview process. Pay a qualified independant committee to find the best candidate. We did the same to find a superintendant. Why not the same here? The bottom line is school board members do not serve the district in hopes of improving their own personal position in life. I don’t believe craford did this, but some could argue she used privledged information to improve her well being. The whole process smells, and it doesn’t smell good.

  42. Anonymous on October 5, 2008 9:17 am
  43. there will be no special election. the board will appoint someone from craford’s district to serve the remainder of her term.

  53. Why don’t you pick on adults. Leave the kids alone.

  54. Anonymous on October 7, 2008 6:06 pm
  55. no, kids are expected to behave in a defined manner. If they don’t then consequences will apply. We as adults teach behavior we want kids to emulate. If you as a adult act like a jerk, then what more do you expect from young people.

Bruce Miller, Max Miller need I say more?

  57. Nate Smith is not in district 7. That was the district he ran in and was elected until they found out he lives just outside the line.

  58. Anonymous on October 9, 2008 2:25 pm
  59. Nate was representing Doug Wiles district until they realized that he was in Airhart’s district. so, he would be able to run for Symantha’s spot

  61. anoymous 2:25, yes this is true. Bring Nate back. He did a good job.
