Sometimes I just miss home
May 8, 2006 |
I went to Columbia, MO for a Kenny Chesney show on Saturday night. The show was entertaining and I had a good time, but the fun stopped when I got back to KC. I’d parked my pickup at a friend’s apartment complex and rode with her and her boyfriend. When I got back I noticed some glass under my truck and thought “Damn, somebody broke a beer bottle under my wheels.” I went to sweep some of it away and noticed that it wasn’t a bottle but the 3rd door window. They took what you’d expect, the little bit of cash I had in there and all the random quarters in the console. The also took a backpack with a couple t-shirts, a pair of shorts, and my overnight bag. Apparently the thiefs needed to brush their teeth and put on some deodorant. What bugs me the most, though, is they took my bowling stuff. And not just mine, but a buddy’s who left his stuff with me after last week. So now there’s a homeless guy wearing a Budweiser t-shirt, carrying around 46 pounds of bowling balls and 2 pairs of bowling shoes, walking around downtown Kansas City with clean teeth and smelling like Old Spice. The funny part is they didn’t even touch my Royals tickets. The most valuable thing in my truck dollar wise was flipped through and tossed aside. How should I feel about that? One of the things I value the most wasn’t wanted by someone with nothing…or at least a homeless guy with bad breath and smelly pits who needs glasses and has a bowling obsession.
My deductible is $1000. Your donations are welcome.
