Tod,
Just a suggestion, our oldest son scored a 1421 on his SAT. What helped him, when he was younger we always watched basic biology, history, space and nature shows. Competing in high school in the UIL(Univerisity Interscholatic League) his classmate and counter part asked him how obtained this knowledge. Basic parenting.

Never, never never seen such an idiotic mess! You people who continually think you can deny the entire district and it's high schoolers a decent place to learn are the scum of the earth. Trouble is, you probably like being called that. You yearn for negative attention, and this is how you do it. How do you live with yourselves? No conscience, that's how. Pitiful losers indeed.

Earlier this year a $13 million dollar bond referendum paying for a new high school and renovated elementary school was defeated with 50% support. 60% support is required. Another bond referendum is expected in the spring of 2008, said Wilson.

I spoke to "the State" a couple of year ago while doing one of the bond issue stories. "The State" equates to the Ia. Dept of Ed and they confirmed that they cerainly will intervene if they feel it neccessary. It makes fiscal sense for the state entity to solve building problems where they can by consolidating districts and utilizing under-enrolled buildings that are in decent shape. At that time, the subject of Adair Casey came up - they have a much more modern high school facility that is not being used to capacity. No one would give me a timeline; I suspect that the Dept of Ed is not anxious to intervene, but it is a distinct possibility. I almost wish they would. The idea of my kids being on the bus even longer than they are now is not appealing, but I would like for them to have the advantage of a building that is at least SAFE.

Don't you know where you live? The "state" refers to IOWA. Those from the state most likely involved with any of this would be the Iowa Department of Education and maybe OSHA.

susan, stuart will not dry up. A community of more than 1700 (and growing) will not loose their high school either. Not that anyone has suggested that. I just get tired of people saying the "state" (whoever that is) will come in and close our school. Or the "state" (again, who exactly is the "state") will come in and take control of our district and place students where they think they should be. PLEASE GET A GRIP

Blogs can provide a tremendous service to a community by giving ordinary folks the opportunity to respond immediately to issues and grievances, or by fostering open discussions that just may *gasp* lead to some creative solutions.
It is sad that Stuart is not capable of seizing the opportunity that has been presented to them in three different forums.
Yes, I know Michelle and her gang will jump on the "bash the Eye" bandwagon, but it was a benefit to the locals.
I can't count the number of times I have jumped to the defense of Tod Broman who, in addition to being an extremely skilled and CARING educator, is also a man who has the guts to speak his mind openly. It is incomprehensible to me that parents would feel the need to attack him in the first place. An individual like Mr. Broman is a tremendous asset to the community and to the school system.
And to the grammar nazi who was quick to diminish the essence of my daughter's posts: am I glowing with pride at the state of the written communication skills of the MAJORITY of you? No. The youth of today suffer from an innundation of "text-speak", shorthand and a lack of interest in the traditional written word. They have somewhat of an excuse, albeit a poor one. Those of you who are beyond the age of 16, what is YOUR excuse for poorly spelled, grammatically incorrect posts? What is your excuse for personal attacks in lieu of analytical, or at the very least, coherent debate?
Is it conceivable that you folks could stop trashing your neighbors long enough to consider solutions to the many challenges that face your community? Or will you simply continue in this vein until the town of Stuart dries up and blows away?

We need your help, our school does. if you arent willing to put aside whatever differences you have for the people in the community, this problem will come back. It'll come back, and we will be right her where we first started. Have you ever heard of karma? Denis and Louise are two very bright people, very caring to. they even looked at the school themselves, and said this is dangerous. I understand you don't want certain things to come out of this, but everything comes with a sacrifice for someone. So Im going to go out on a lim here and ask for your help. Please the student body and school needs more than just Mr. Broman, the faculty, and some students to back them up. This is ridiculous, you need to stop bashing on Mr. B, and his family, and LOOK AT THE MATTER AT HAND!! Its right in front of your face. Now either your to big a coward to stick your kneck for fear of what people will say, or you flat out refuse to help someone(correction) Sorry some people.
