  1. Hey Nate,

Where did you get the addresses for all the letters you sent out to former students?

  9. Who furnished Nate and other people sending out mailers the list of past graduates and their mailing address?

  11. Hey Nate did you get the graduates names & addresses off of the internet or where? Inquiring minds want to know!

  17. Todd & Karla Miller need to keep quiet otherwise this bond issue will fail also.

  19. Ahhh, very good, I got my vote in now. No, No, and No.

  21. I am glad the Millers sent my son a reminder to send in an absentee ballot since he is away at college and won’t be here to vote.
It was a nice reminder and did not sway anyone to vote a certain way.
    Thanks Millers and Nate Westre.

  22. Anonymous on March 11, 2008 9:02 am
  23. Well, the phone call I received did try to sway how I was to vote. They presumed that I was voting YES but wanted to remind me to vote NO on the Dexter Elementary site.

  24. Anonymous on March 11, 2008 3:56 pm
  25. I’m sure people know how they want to vote no matter who is calling and what they are asking for a vote. Duh! Grow up and get over it. It is politics no matter whether it is a president or a bond issue. go to Des Moines and see what goes on there.

  26. Anonymous on March 11, 2008 6:19 pm
  27. Yeah 3:56pm, the des moines school district is in one big mess. WCV is at the bottom for student achievement. It will take more then a new building to turn this pig around!

  29. Well Nate’s letter and Miller’s letter pissed me off. I don’t want their junk, and I sure as hell don’t want to be on any mailing list from them.

Not all past grads are interested in voting yes.

  30. Anonymous on March 12, 2008 7:51 am
  31. I hope the school did not furnish a list of the graduates names & addresses. There are privacy laws. Is it true Sharon Sloss gave her Menlo teachers a list of reasons why “not” to vote for a district wide elementary in Dexter?

  32. The sky is falling on March 12, 2008 9:26 am
  33. Hadn’t heard that but it would be funny as this would just add to the sad, sad state of affairs that we’ve created. We are all selfish and pathetic. Where do I get open enrollment papers?

  34. Anonymous on March 12, 2008 10:15 am
  35. Do your research, there is NO warranty that any sales tax money will be used to pay off this bond for 20 years. You can expect to pay $4.05 per $1000 valuation for 20 years!

  36. Anonymous on March 12, 2008 11:23 am
  37. I’m also interested in where Nate and Miller got their addresses. It seems a bit suspicious to me. I doubt they went through the year book, assembled names, and then sent the letters.

I’m guessing they came from the school. Not that Nate of Miller would ever admit where they got them if that is where they came from.

I’m sure Arnold or Debbie Wilson gave them, of course they would never admit it either. I think someone should call the school and talk to Arnold and Wilson.

They did not tell you how to vote. They just asked you to vote.
So, VOTE!! (however you choose to)

  41. I’m voting yes, yes, no and I was able to make up my mind without receiving any letters or talking to any of the admin people or teachers. I know, conspiracy people. It’s amazing people are able to think for themselves. Maybe someday you all can too.

  42. Anonymous on March 12, 2008 4:52 pm
  43. 12:38pm-the YES committee asked me to vote YES YES on A and B. They did ask me to vote NO on C. Don’t presume to know what was in the conversation!

  44. Anonymous on March 12, 2008 6:14 pm
  45. Maybe the state should get involved as to whether anybody employed by the school furnished a mailing list to the YES committee. There a privacy laws to protect individuals. During the last bond issue people were upset and forced the Whole Vision Committe to furnish a list of people who donated money. Maybe it is time the YES committee admitted to where they got their list of names for the mailer.

  46. Anonymous on March 12, 2008 6:16 pm
  47. Maybe it is time the state steps in and splits up the district. I would rather pay taxes to another district than to have it go to a building in Stuart. Keep the sales tax from Jordan Creek in Dallas County.

  49. As a parent of a student who has graduated from WVC within the last several years, I know where Karla Miller got her info. She was on the after-prom committee of Alex’s class. She had the list of all the 07 & 06 classes. The list came from the school, but it was given to the after-prom committee to be used for after-prom. It wasn’t handed out as a mailing list. I do wonder who paid for all the postal expenses.

  51. I will vote YES YES NO Because….
400+ kids in one elementary building is too many. Scheduling pe, art, computer lab, music, etc for 400+ kids will be a nightmare. Young parents want their young elementary children to go to their first years of schooling in the town they live in. That is statewide not just here.
Just picture what happens at school during nasty weather, the kids cannot go out for recess, in the Dexter building with over 400+ children they will be staying in their classrooms during recess.
An elementary in Stuart means our kids get an extra hour a day at home, instead of on a bus. 1/2 hour in the morning and 1/2 in the afternoon.
I’m voting for the kids, not a grudge.

  52. Anonymous on March 13, 2008 7:52 am
  53. What about the Redfield elementary kids getting to stay in their home town for their first years of school?

  54. Anonymous on March 13, 2008 10:39 am
  55. I agree 100% with 6:33. It will be a nightmare to create equal time for all specials classes (art, pe, computers, etc.). Also, recess will be insane. Can you imagine having 200 or so kids out on the playground at one time? Yes, there would be that many because there are always 2 grades out at the same time with a 3rd overlapping. That many kids make it a lot harder for the teachers to keep an eye on them and it allows for more problems to occur.

Plus, I’m worried about class size. If we have all these kids together in a little building, are class sizes going to soar to 30 kids per class? That would not be a good thing. Even 25 would be too many. The kids would suffer because the teacher just wouldn’t have time to help everyone. As it is, I think Menlo classes are nearly too big. I wouldn’t want them any larger.

  56. Anonymous on March 13, 2008 1:23 pm
  57. Lets just make sure we shove all the good kids to Stuart, those from both sides of the district, so that the Stuart elementry looks outstanding and the Redfield/Dexter elementary looks like crap.

  60. Anonymous on March 13, 2008 6:10 pm
  61. 1:23 Sharon Sloss has been trying to keep her elementary better than the Dexter elementary. They hire staff to help with reading where Dexter does not. The Dexter Title ? teacher only has a few minutes each day to work with children who need extra help!

  62. Anonymous on March 13, 2008 7:10 pm
  63. Oh I don’t know 6:10. I think there might be some not so honest things going on with her and her crew. But it is for the children so I guess that is what matters.

  71. All this talk of the list is ridiculous anyone can get a list of voters at the Secretary of States office sorted by age. Where do you think the NO people get their list to do the robot calls. Anyone willing to help whether yes or no in their mind they are doing what they think is best for the kids. Leave them alone.

  72. Anonymous on March 14, 2008 11:34 am
  73. No the list didn’t come from a list of voters as it was very specific. It came from the school I have no doubt. Nate and Karla screwed up. They will have to answer for it someday.

    I agree with you 100%
That is too many kids in one building and the guy and lunchroom (if there is one) would not be large enough.
Keep the elementary kids seperate. Quit all this bussing. Bussing over 50% of the kids in the district from preschool-8th grade out of their town is ridiculous.

  82. anonymous on March 15, 2008 10:30 pm
  83. I have always been in favor of consolidation and a new HS in Stuart, Middle school in Redfield and elementary in Dexter. I sugested this at a Round table meeting clear back in 2000. I fought very hard for consolidation and forward progression of our district and it’s communities. I have sat through many meetings. I have listened to the bickering and backbitting to the point that I think that all of my efforts to keep our district together was in vain. Maybe we should not have convinced our former school board members to drop the concurrent action. I thouhgt that we would be better being able to offer our kids more curriculum, but at what cost? The buildings that house the students in the HS & Menlo are falling down around us. The administration has ignored upkeep in those buildings so that we will have no other choice than to build new ones for safety’s sake. I feel that we do need better buildings. I’m not sure that I can afford it now that we have to pay for a Cultural Center, an aquatic center, a new library, City Hall and walk/bike trail. My taxes and the cost of living keep going up, but our pay might increase 2.5% to 3%. I can’t afford to live in a new house or drive a new car nor do I. Sometimes I have to choose which I should pay(Medicine, house payment, gas in the car to go to work or groceries) It sure makes you learn to be frugle. We don’t eat out any more. We stay at home because gas costs too much. Let’s not forget about the high cost of health care and insurance. We have cut out almost all of the extras except cable & internet. We even gave up our cell phones. So don’t tell me that everybody can afford the estimated small amount that our taxes are going to increase. I simply cannot afford any extra $ going out. I am not willing to give up everything. Hell I don’t have any kids in school any more. If I could afford it without having to give up even more, then I would support it. For now, however, I can’t

  84. Anonymous on March 16, 2008 11:49 am
  85. You also need to consider the savings with new buildings.
Our old buildings are costing so much in heating and repairs. The district will also be saving so much on utilities and upkeep. You need to look at that also.

Plus, new homes means new tax dollars and more people helping to pay the debt. Plus, they will be new homes which are taxed higher than older homes because of the value.

  86. Anonymous on March 16, 2008 1:17 pm
  87. New homes? Give me a break. There were supposed to be 250 new homes at Quail Run. How many were actually constructed, maybe 5? They were cheaply made and no one wants them. Now most of that land has been sold to return to agriculture. Lately, the district has put NO money to up keep the buildings, that’s one of the reasons they are getting in bad shape. Do you really believe I would trust any more of my money with this bunch? NO!

  88. Investing in Stuart on March 16, 2008 6:00 pm
  89. THEN CLOSE THE FRIGGIN SCHOOL!!! I’m sick of you effing babies in this district!

  90. Anonymous on March 16, 2008 7:32 pm
  91. The reason there are not as many new homes is because the school buildings are so old.

  92. Anonymous on March 16, 2008 9:34 pm
  93. 7:32pm Even if there were new school buildings in this town, there will not be any significant increase in population. Chances are in a few years this district will be broken up and students sent to other schools. That is the future of education in Iowa. This will provide a better education for the student and generally will cost less for the tax payers.

  94. public information, its out there on March 16, 2008 11:56 pm
  95. Public information. You really should see what is available. Hasn’t anyone ever googled before. My goodness what is everyone trying to hide? Want to know is Dem or Rep? Want to know who voted what when? Contact your county courthouse. Or check on line, you would be surprised at what one can find. By the way in regards to what town is generating sales tax. Yep, its on line.

What about Redfield’s development lots being sold (or tried to auction off, maybe they did not have a buyer)? Looks like they decided not to build any more
What about the development that was to happen with hundreds of new homes at the Redfield/Dexter exit (Hunter Ranch)? Nothing was built there.
AT least Quail Run is building and so far all the homes, event the model home has sold. I ams sure they will build more. People in Castles has sold their new home. They are going to build another.
And look at Diamondhead-there is always new construction going on there.

  100. Anonymous on March 18, 2008 6:41 pm
  101. 5:04pm In case you didn’t know, most of Quail Run has been sold off and returned to agriculture. They promised 250 new houses, and all they have built you can count on your fingers.

  102. Anonymous on March 19, 2008 4:47 pm
  103. There are 10 or 11 homes in Quail Run and all sold.
    But, my point was:
Hunter Brothers also said they would be building hundreds of homes at the Dexter/Redfield exit and it did not happen. Redfield quit building.
It is not just Stuart that has put a hold on building for now.
The economy is not good for new homes going up now.

  104. Anonymous on March 23, 2008 8:26 pm
  105. I would have to agree, what did happen to that BIG development east of Dexter, that the city annexed the land for and a lot of hot air promised big plans? makes Quail Run look like the biggest development to spring up west of Wiscotta in years! I notice all of the signs in Dexter, the FUTURE of Dexter depends on your vote, what ? the school is not leaving. I am voting NO on Proposition C, will someone please explain to me why we should bus so many students further east than is necessary ? and at what costs ? I attended the meetings, listened attentively to all comments and viewed all of the plans, I hope thinking minds will weigh the options before them.

  106. anonymous on March 25, 2008 9:48 pm
  107. 8:26,
I agree with you completely. I did not vote for issue C either, and I am glad that it did not pass. You exemplify a good citizen who does not go around complaining about this issue without getting your facts straight first. I am very happy to hear that you went to the meetings and heard everything out before the vote, regardless of what your original opinions were. I wish more people were like you.
