Congratulations to the WCV girls on a successful basketball season. Their accomplishments: Conference Champs, District Champs, #12 in the final Class 2A rankings. Not a bad year. Look for some postseason awards soon.
Britney Spears (pictured) went crazy. She’s become an embarrassment to white-trash like me everywhere.
We’ve all been working too much.
Local smoking bans were debated. Where do you stand?

I completely agree that some people are working too much! Myself being one of them and I doubt if that changes anytime soon! I also make plenty of time to live life though besides this week when I’ve been stressed to the max! But, hey, it’s Friday so I’m in a much better mood!
I’m not as in touch with Iowa as some people are so I didn’t realize that Des Moines was having the smoking ban debate as well. I have nothing against smokers, it’s their choice, but I do have to say it was awesome to go to Lawrence and party in the bars all night and not be repulsed by your own stinkiness on the drive home.

On working too much: What do you expect? We are now competing with Asian labor. We do half as much work for ten times as much money, but we’ve come to expect a certain standard of living that allows for lots of leisure time. If we’re going to be so price-driven as a culture, then we have to accept the consequences. If you don’t like it, quit buying cheap shit at WalMart and other bargain basements that place low prices above high quality of life. Damn.
On smoking bans: I love ‘em. Lawrence is the best city in Kansas. All of my favorite bars are still in business, and some of them even have these new awesome smoking porches outside that actually add a nice outdoor space to the building. The thing about Lawrence is, we don’t have to worry about losing business to KC or Topeka. Those places suck enough that people still flock to Lawrence at night and on the weekends, regardless of the smoking ban (and some *because* of the smoking ban). I don’t know much about DesMoines and how desirable some of its suburbs are over others (not that I’d ever call a suburb “desirable”, personally), but an area-wide smoking ban may be the best solution in that case, so certain areas aren’t losing business to their neighbors.
