Weekly Recap
November 23, 2007 |
- Stuart’s fourth police, John Larsen, officer began duty last weekend. If you’ve met him I hope it wasn’t with a ticket.
- We got our first snow this week, but…no plows, no sand, no salt. I realize the weather caught many by surprise, but shouldn’t the street department be somewhat prepared?
- Today is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. If you want to avoid the hassle of Des Moines a Ruby’s gift card always makes a nice gift
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. If you need something to do tomorrow night the Kansas game will be on the big screen. See ya!

plows, sand or salt would have been a waste. My street is clean. The snow was minimal and didn’t last. It only calls for more careful driving in the first snowfall.
The streets should always, at the very least, be salted. I went out Wednesday and had to idle my way around town because the streets were so slick. Even going that slow I about slid through 2 or 3 intersections. Sorry but if the city isn’t going to maintain the streets, then they are going to become liable. Bob needs a little more reminding of what his job is and that it has to be completed whether sun, rain, sleet, or snow.
The Stuart streets are always terrible in the winter. I can think of few exceptions. You all are surprised?
Hey Nate heard you were letting CHILDREN in the bar? I hope this is NOT true. Corey needs to get a LIFE
Nice to know a council member is taking his kids into Ruby’s. Let’s see, 2 are in 4th grade an the other is in 1st grade? Real classy and responsible for both Cory & Nate.
why all the cory bashing? apparently the majority of citizens feel he is doing a good job. If you have a problem with corey then go see him. leave his kids out of all of this.
Some people are thinking of the kids. He sure the HELL DON”T Lisa and Ruby’s is his life.
Hey lay off Corey. He is just trying to teach his kids what the classy life is in Stuart so they know what path to take.
That’s a good one 1:40 p.m. AHAHAHAHAHA!
Yes he’s a definate role model. A stumblin’, bumblin’, bald-headed role model for all little children.
9:10, maybe his kids don’t like going into the bars but does he give them a choice?
I don’t know about you, but I was NOT in the mood for that close of a basketball game last night!
Too bad Brandon Rush doesn’t play football
you know it is probably only 3 or 5 of you folks out there who are bashing cory. Get over it. Move on to someone else, or better yet remember the golden rule and live it.
Yes, let him be the excellent father he so obviously is.
Hopefully the Chief has been made aware of this and he can now keep watch on Cory & Ruby’s. It’s one thing to let a 18, 19 or 20 year old in the bar. It’s quite another to allow a 6/7 year old and 10 year olds in.
is it legal for eighteen year olds to be in a bar?
speaking from experience as i was a bartender for many years…………The child issue is a touchy one. There is a time in the day that I see nothing wrong with children (young) in the bar while with a parent. If that parent is responible enough to keep a watchful eye on the child as to not get too “roudie” or loud or run around the place. If the child sits quitely along side the parent with a glass of pop and a bag of chips….no harm. The time is another issue. Saturday mornings, or early afternoon was always exceptable. The later in the day, early evening there is NO excuse for any child to be in the bar. Too many adults that are getting off work and looking to have a relaxing drink with a bunch of buddies…or just to sit and enjoy a drink with the batender. Cory’s childrens ages are young enough that this should not have caused anyone to think twice about it. How long did he stay, what time of day was it? Those are the issues. If this occurs frequently, then maybe someone should step in. Until then, in my opinion he did nothing wrong. And as for Nate “letting” children in his bar… Come on people…get a grip! It is not a felony punishable by a fine or jail time!
Yes Cory took them in the bar but I know the girls’ mother was extremely angry over it. It was obviously a concern for several people (one of which I know) who felt it necessary to let the mother know what was happening. If my husband took my kids in the bar without my consent, I’d kick his @ss - especially if all he wanted to do was get on the computer with the bar owner. How is anyone supposed to watch the kids if their attention is focused elsewhere? Cory needs to stop being cheap and buy a computer so he can be home with his kids instead of wasting money on “commitment” rings for his ex-sister-in-law.. oops, I mean girlfriend.
i thought there was a law you had to be 18 to enter a bar. There are eating establishments that serve liquor, and only those that have enough food service are the ones children are allowed to enter.
Sorry, I meant “21″ to enter a bar
legal age is for CONSUMPTION!! Not entering a bar! You must not get out much 10:13. Or you must just not like Cory and or Nate. There is NO LAW stating a child or young adult can not enter a drinking establishment while accompinied by a parent for christ sake! MOST eating establishments DO serve alcohol….unless your talking fast food, and unless posted..” NO KIDS ALLOWED”… in clear view on the front door they can go in. If you only knew how stupid you sound. OMG!!
Hey 12:13 - Ruby’s has “NO ONE UNDER 21 ALLOWED” on the door in plain site. You’d have to be blind not to see it. Cory did & pointed it out to his kids as he walked in. Great guy isn’t he?
Ruby use to have a big sign on her door that said “must be 21″. This was for her own protection since a younger person cannot be supervised by the propietor when trying to do business. There are no guarantees that a child may not take a sip of a drink when no one is looking, and whether there is a law or not, I think it in the best interest of any child to stay out. Our kids go through training in school about what not to do, and then the parants go ahead and teach them what they do. Soory, I think there ought to be a law!
NO ONE UNDER 21 is intended for the 18,19,20 year olds that think it is alright or maybe no one will notice they aren’t of age. I would presume….maybe I’m wrong. We are talking about 10 and under! I’ve never stepped a foot in Ruby’s so no…I’m not blind just didn’t realize Nate had a sign on his front door. Maybe Nate would like to explain his version of his sign that is posted?
Is it a city ordinance that doesn’t allow minors in the bar?
How low do you have to be to drag kids into your bashing of someone you do not like? Have even one of you “Anonymous” chickens called me or stopped me and asked if any of this is true? I will answer it for you, NO!!! You don’t want to know the truth because then you couldn’t continue to bash me on the blogs. As I stated after the elections, I will answer any questions anyone has but will continue to refuse debating with “Anonymous” people. Have the guts to sign your name and we can discuss anything you wish. Until then, please do not mention my children ever again. Thank you.
Are you calling your kids liars then, Cory? In the meantime, try to be a responsible adult and father. Thank you.
Sam, I believe there is a city ordinance. As I remember it, an establishment must serve 50% or more food to have children allowed in. Also, Nate has the “no one under 21 allowed” posted. Nate COULD be fined or even possibly lose his license if anyone wanted to push it.
Cory, you are a council member and as such, I would expect you to know the city ordinances. Also, I KNOW you are lying when you say it didn’t happen. Thanks for showing me your true colors.
many of you must live a really boring, pathetic life. Why not focus the needs of others who are less fortunate? After all, it is the holiday season and many of us in our communities are truly blessed. How many children will go with out or less this year? Do something positve and charitable this year. My god!! get of Corey’s back. Get a life!!
Thank you corey for your service to this community. Merry Christmas to you and all your loved ones.
I’m not a state inspector or anything, but I highly doubt that Nate could lose his license over this but maybe I’m wrong.
It’s unbelievable the things people will do just so they can bash on another person. The absolute worst part about living in a small town is if you don’t know what you’re doing somebody else does. Maybe we should spend as much time worrying about ourselves as we do other people.
Anon at 6:25, grow a set and post your name or shut your yapper!!
I TOTALLY agree with you Sam. Who really cares if Cory had his kids in the bar with him. After reading through this I can bet MOST of these posts are coming from the same person. One person that very obviousley does not care much for Cory. That person must be a very lonely, unhappy individual with nothing better to do then then bitch about what others do or don’t do.
Can’t you guys think of anything else to do? This stuff is getting really ridiculous. People must think Stuart is a real hell hole. Do you blame them? Didn’t have this much shit when it was the Real Ruby’s. The blogs are a real bad idea. Keeps things really stirred up and over the top when people can accuse, rumor and run down others with no recourse available. If you are going to do this stuff, state your name, or else nobody should believe a damned thing on any of these blogs. This kind of badmouthing is really harmful, and the people doing it must be really lonely, negative individuals. It should stop.
Ohh Andy. You’re back whining I see.
I think this is more about Cory’s parenting skills than Nate & Ruby’s.
I don’t see any FACTS in this post so I don’t see why it should continue. Get a life, worry bout you and your own!
1:59 why don’t you practice what you preach?? Where is your name?
7:30….did we hit a nerve? I think the blogs were meant for entertainment, and this one had been just that until the big cop mess instigated by Tyler Coe and Ann Cult..”dueling blogsites” if you will. Since then, it has been one little pissin match after another, where people have been slandered left and right. The only good news is that if you were to poll the majority of the pop of the town, you would find that most don’t even know there are blogs. Just as well. So…..7:30, just be nice. See how boring it gets and then things will return to normal, or as normal as it can get in a town with so many rotten eggs pretending to be pillars of the community.
Does anybody remember what happened last year the first week of December? If not here is some clues, BUSTED,BUSTED,FIERED!!!!
What is FIERED….?
Exactly what we need. Someone churning up old news to get the best and brightest (LOL) rehashing old, finished business because they have nothing else better to do.
EXACTLY, 10:58 a.m.
my gosh…
LOL…the best and brightest…
good one!
Fiered: a typographical error or typo
Nobody wants to have fun on the blogs anymore. It would be too boring. Instead they just want to say things they ordinarily would’t have the balls to. OK, so be it, but let’s at least start something new.
