Weekly Recap

January 12, 2008 |

- Chicken pox is running rampant through the district. Don’t itch your scratch…or scratch your itch…or whatever.

- The Good Egg Gazette got a little national publicity this week. Check out the “future of blogging” (cough cough). Sorry, couldn’t help myself…his words, not mine.

That’s all you get for this week. My new computer should be here next week, but does that mean more blogging? Probably not ;)

Don’t forget to stop at Ruby’s tonight for some live music with Brian Calek starting around 9pm.

  1. Hey Nate when were you going to fill us in about your new lady friend? I seen you guys ar the game lst night you look so cute together. Oh and that was nice of you to let the little kid win :)

  3. Off topic but.. oh well, don’t care.

Friday night’s basketball game was another prime example (to add to the outrageously long list already) of why we need a larger school. There were so many spectators at the game that people had to sit in the aisles, stand in the aisles, or just hang out in the hall hoping for glimpses of the games. We need a larger gym that can hold people comfortably and safely. All the schools around us have their games in their large high school gyms with their large bleacher sections. We are the only ones that have games in the old, shoddy elementary gym.

Also, being the eavesdropper I am, I couldn’t help but hear several Panorama students and parents commenting on how they hate coming to games here because the “school sucks.” The boys I heard compaining in the lunch room because they hated having to go clear down their for snacks and it always being so crowded. The parent I heard as I was walking around in the gym and she was complaining because she was about sitting on someone else’s lap - in other words, there’s not enough room.

So, in terms of buildings, looks like we are the jokes of the district. Congrats all you greedy no voters. Hope you are satified, you big jerks.

  5. It really doesn’t matter what others think of us. Don’t worry about what others think about you, or it will consume your life.

  7. 3:09 If you want to bitch to the people who are keeping us from getting a new school then talk to the local businessmen that continue to insist on the HS in Stuart with more money being dumped in the current HS. If this is on the ballot in March you can check that one as a loss also cause people are not going to put more money iin that school. Talk to the people that fail to get the point. New HS in Stuart new district wide in Dexter and it will be a done deal. ANYTHING ELSE IS A NO!!!

  8. Anonymous on January 13, 2008 10:37 pm
  9. District wide elementary in Dexter. New HS on present site. Just make it work or I vote NO.

  10. Anonymous on January 14, 2008 1:36 pm
  11. It seems to me that alot of money has been spent on the Redfield and Dexter buildings and all we hear is “Spend more in Dexter” on district wide elementary and we will vote for it. Just another example of Dexter and Redfield wanting it all.
What is with the businessmen being blamed for everything? come on and get real.

  12. Anonymous on January 14, 2008 3:18 pm
  13. don’t try to say that tons of money was spent in Redfield and Dexter. Yes Redfield did get a new addition, and yes I’m sure it was costly. But Dexter, they had WALLS put up. Finally, I went to school there and never had walls and that was back in the 80’s. That’s pennies compared to what it will cost to build a new school.

  15. WHATEVER

  16. Anonymous on January 14, 2008 4:59 pm
  17. Dexter chose not to have walls!

  18. Anonymous on January 14, 2008 5:03 pm
  19. Those in Dexter and Redfield who think that YOUR taxes from YOUR county just might want to rethink about that kind of selfishness, not to mention, the district owns the money, not the towns, but at any rate, the state is going to revamp that issue soon, and you might just be talking out the other side of your mouths. Be careful just how much threatening you do with the people who have had enough of this behavior. People in your own communities are sick of it and are embarassed because of it and people in Stuart and Menlo, no not business people, real live breathing citizens are fed up as well. Just be careful about threatening a community. That makes people pull together like nothing else. You who threaten, we know who you are, and it won’t work forever. enough is enough.

  20. Anonymous on January 14, 2008 6:58 pm
  21. Enough with your ranting 5:03. Stop with your “sky is falling” about the state taking any action. It’s time for those running the same old bond over and over to face up to reality. The voters of the district are sick and tired of your same old song and dance!

  22. Anonymous on January 14, 2008 7:32 pm
  23. What a bunch of morons. Dexter and Redfield didn’t choose to have renovations done. That was forced on them, more than likely to try to smooth ruffled feathers in hopes of getting a HS in Stuart. Fat chance of that happening.

    Arnoooold is an idiot.

  24. Anonymous on January 15, 2008 8:23 am
  25. It is interesting that right before consolidation, Dexfield put all the money they had into the Redfield building. Even the High school classes spent all their money and had to rely on much of the Stuart kids money for prom and other activities.

  26. Anonymous on January 15, 2008 10:32 am
  27. You might also point out 8:23am that before the consolidation Stuart spent money to aquire land east of town. It’s a fact that Stuart had plans to build a HS and elementary on that site. The voters have stated their opinion SIX times, a big NO!

  28. Anonymous on January 15, 2008 12:18 pm
  29. Stuart spent money because no one on the west side ever thought we’d consolidate. The only reason we did was because the little Dexfield 18 yr olds voted. Of course they would want to go to school here. It was way better. But now, we all must suffer.

  30. Anonymous on January 15, 2008 12:23 pm
  31. The reason Stuart spent the money was because they were planning to pull a fast one and locate all the district facilities in Stuart.
Stuart wants it all and after 6 failed bond issues haven’t figured out that the district isn’t going to tag along.

  32. Anonymous on January 15, 2008 9:10 pm
  33. Yes 8:23 Dexfield used their money to put in new windows. The purchase was a wise move; the windows helped protect students from the bad weather and rain for many years. What good has the land done for the district the past six years? Maybe the SM board should have used their money on their facilities in Stuart and Menlo. They might be in better shape now if they had. Whether the next bond issue includes a new elementary in Stuart or Dexter; people will not vote for a high school on the school owned land. The past votes have proved that. Pick a neutral location and you will get your new high school.

  34. Anonymous on January 15, 2008 9:15 pm
  35. A bond issue for a new high school other than the school owned land plus a district wide elementary in Dexter would equal a 60% required Yes vote!

  36. Anonymous on January 15, 2008 9:25 pm
  37. 7:32 The chosen few in Stuart thought if they built on to the Redfield building and remodeled Dexter that it would sway voters into voting for a new high school. It backfired! Find a neutral location for the high school if you ever want a bond issue to pass! Put a district wide elementary in Dexter then tear down the old high school. Find out what the Redfield people felt like to see the wrecking ball destroy their school. It most likely was in better shape than the Stuart building but people from the western part of the district would never believe that now. The memory of seeing the Redfield building destroyed is still in the memories of many and won’t be forgotten this spring if another bond issue comes up for a vote!

  38. Anonymous on January 16, 2008 1:19 am
  39. STUART wants it all?! What a joke. All I hear is Dexter, Dexter, Dexter. I’d say it’s Dexter (and redfield) that want it all. If that’s the case, maybe they should go off together again. Then they can have everything over there.

  40. Anonymous on January 16, 2008 1:52 am
  41. You should’ve seen the faces of Redfieldians when we took the wrecking ball to their building. Haha! Way to go, Dr. A.! Even if it causes disagreement, I would pay $1,000 to see it, again!

  42. Anonymous on January 16, 2008 12:18 pm
  43. 1:52am I’d like to see the look on your face when this referendum FAILS a 7th time.

  45. I don’t care! I’m moving out and never coming back! Haha!

  46. Anonymous on January 16, 2008 4:00 pm
  47. No matter what you say, the decisions made or to be made will be in the best interests of the students. Not the people who want to bitch and complain ad nauseum. the people making the decisions on the ballot will be making them to best fit the NEEDS of the students and all those to come. Sorry. This time will be different.

  48. Anonymous on January 16, 2008 6:08 pm
  49. 4:00 the decisions made have always been in the best interests of the gangOF4, not the students. Go ahead and propose the S.O.S (same old site), the people with vote this down again for the 7th time!

  50. Anonymous on January 16, 2008 7:20 pm
  51. The funny thing about this is the amount of Dexfield white trash that comments on a Stuart blog. Take a class and get your own blog, but that would involve going to school.
Obviously, school(s) and education are not subjects you deem important! Go back to your meth labs!

  52. Anonymous on January 16, 2008 7:33 pm
  53. 7:20 You and others are the reason the Dexfield white trash never vote in favor of a new high school. People like you and Tod are the reason it has never passed. Sure we hated to see our building torn down in Redfield, and we are greatful to have the new addition. At least we have a building. That is more than Stuart will ever get.

  54. Anonymous on January 16, 2008 8:37 pm
  55. 7:20-Please don’t come to the conclusion that everyone who speaks out against the east site is from Dexter or Redfield. You’ll find this time around many NO voters from Stuart. We are sick and tired of this proposed site by a special interest group in Stuart. Building on to the present HS will save 3M dollars as opposed to building on the east site. Build the district wide elementary in Dexter.

    1. Glad you can admit you are white trash.

    2. Why do you hate Tod Broman so much? Can’t accept the fact that STUART-MENLO school was the one that had the good teachers that stuck around? Can’t accept the fact kids now are getting a better education from a STUART based teacher than the one you received from your Dexfield ones? Or do you just not like smart people in general?

    3. Your little comment “At least we have a building. That is more than Stuart will ever get.” just confirms everything the west-siders have thought since this whole mess started. It’s all about Redfield & Dexter and you could care less about the interest of the WCV students or community. Since you say Stuart will have nothing, maybe you should start working on having the Redfield & Dexter people “throw” us out of the district.

  58. Anonymous on January 16, 2008 9:55 pm
  59. Stuart, Menlo, Dexter, Redfield. STOP,, we are not individuals, we are one big community, WEST CENTRAL VALLEY COMMUNITY SCHOOL, Can’t you start working for your kids instead of against your neighbor?

  63. 8:58 I’m not 7:33 but…

Tod Broman is a parisite. All he does is tick people off on the East side of the district. People on the West side like me realize this and wish he and his family would just shut up and move somewhere else and end his personal little crusade.

  64. Anonymous on January 17, 2008 3:29 pm
  65. I hope none of you ever need Tod’s assistance on the rescue unit. He is a good guy and an excellent giver of care.

  66. Anonymous on January 17, 2008 3:36 pm
  67. 6:08….you are not the majority and won’t ever be. go ahead and threaten. Hope you feel better because you and your coherts are NOT the majority this time around.

Another thing, it won’t get us anywhere to be calling anybody trash. By doing that, you are acting just like them. won’t get anybody anything ever.

  68. Anonymous on January 17, 2008 7:18 pm
  69. 3:36 Let me remind you that the referendum on the east site has failed 6 times! It will FAIL for the 7th! The people are sick and tired of the same old crap coming from the special interest group in Stuart.

  71. I would much rather hear about your lady friend Nate!!!!

  72. Anonymous on January 17, 2008 9:10 pm
  73. You are giving our administration and board members way too much credit. Ya they tore down the Redfield building and put walls in the Dexter building but there is not room for ANY growth in either building. The kids in the Dexter building are having classes in the locker room off of the gym. Seems Dr. Dave can’t count. He told the board he was sure that all the students would fit in the Dexter school and the next thing we heard was we need portable buildings for these kids in Dexter. I agree same plan 7 times is 7 times the stupid. I feel sorry for the kids who are in those buildings but this isn’t the right plan onece again. Sorry kids.

  74. Anonymous on January 18, 2008 12:14 am
  75. Sorry kids you’ll get cancer from radon. Hopefully she next President will have socialized health care so you won’t go in debt while you a disease is ravaging your body. Back to business, East siders! Save our school and let’s head to the Sunday breakfast at the legion where we can complain about our sagging boobs and enormous wrinkles!

  76. Anonymous on January 18, 2008 12:15 am
  77. (Yes the errors are meant to be there. I’m pretending to be an East sider)

  78. Concerned citizen on January 18, 2008 7:36 am
  79. It is this kind of conversations that are so stupid. I really hope that there are more east and west siders…even though we should consider ourselves one…that do not participate in this attacking and blaming and instead are trying to work together to get our students a new building. That is what we really need. Something that all the communities can be proud of and that our students can be proud of too.

  80. Anonymous on January 18, 2008 2:48 pm
  81. Do the students get a rebate form provided by the school when they receive their chemotherapy, due to radon gas giving them cancer?

  82. Annon on January 18, 2008 3:39 pm
  83. Chickenpox is running rampid through the district? Is that caused by radon?

  84. Anonymous on January 18, 2008 5:17 pm
  85. Ask your medical professional. Guess whose building will get sold first when the kids sue thirty years from now? Redfields new building! The radon victims will need the money and the lawyers will be rampant! That’s one reason to let Stuart have the new high school. Let their’s get sold first!

  86. Anonymous on January 19, 2008 7:18 am
  87. Nate has a girly friend? Awwww. Yay.

  88. Anonymous on January 19, 2008 10:53 pm
  89. From what I can remember from many bond issues ago, the Stuart area was given the most “points”, accumulated from a variety of issues involving infrastructure, city services(police, fire, rescue), and utilities(gas, sewer, electrical). This group of people that filled out the assesment were from all 4 communities….what is so wrong with the site on the east edge of Stuart ?? So what if the school board was looking to the future, why build on a land-locked block in the middle of town…look at the vision for the future that was used when the new church was built on the east edge of Stuart, one addition already added on, with more room for future expansion, and used by the school for meetings because they don’t have a room adequate enough ! Volunteer some of your time in the community you live in, see how they need each of us working together to become better places to raise families and provide quality education, it’s the trickle down effect. Maybe then some of the test scores that tried to ridicule the district will improve.. that no care attitude by some may have infiltrated down to some of the students.
West Central Valley, the students wanted it, the district voted for it, now lets make it work ! Go West Central Valley Wildcats !

  90. Anonymous on January 19, 2008 11:17 pm
  91. 10:53-You got to be kidding. The school administration hand picked the people to make the assessment and that was some time after the property had been purchased. The church on the east of town is a poor example of a vision for the future. The reason the addition was completed a couple years ago was because of poor space planning on the original building by the parish council. Save 3M dollars by adding on to the present HS and build a district wide elementary in Dexter.

  92. Anonymous on January 20, 2008 9:08 am
  93. Portables are now going to be next to the hole in the ground in Stuart. They are going to tear down the west wing, and they are bringing in portables to house those that were displaced. Then the board is going to ask a 7th time for a bond issue. The bond will be 3 parts: A to build a much needed high school B to renovate a building for an elementary and C where should the elementary be. Can it get any clearer?

  94. Anonymous on January 20, 2008 10:05 am
  95. Well through confusion and deception they may just get it passed. A,B,C, you have to be kidding me.

  96. Anonymous on January 20, 2008 11:53 am
  97. There will be no deception. Only requirement is that you be an eligible voter and you can read. The voters will have a choice. It should be settled once and for all.

  98. Anonymous on January 20, 2008 2:02 pm
  99. I see this as the solution. Give the voters a choice of what has been over and over and over debated on blogs and in other formats. Let the voters speak as to what they want and do it. The choices are easy. A, B or C? And that’s not enough? 10:05, what do you mean by confusion and deception? Just asking.

  100. Anonymous on January 20, 2008 2:30 pm
  101. Until I see the wording on the ballot, I will not take anyone’s word that the ballot isn’t confusing or deceptive.

  102. Anonymous on January 20, 2008 3:18 pm
  103. It isn’t a,b, or c…. I think it is more like a and b depend upon c to vote. This is what came from the committee that recommended this to the board.

  104. Anonymous on January 20, 2008 4:12 pm
  105. Yeah it’s perfectly clear. What a load of crap. I hope after they do this vote with this ballot someone finds out it is legally void since the method and wording was so screwed up.

  106. Anonymous on January 20, 2008 9:00 pm
  107. The wording hasn’t even come out yet. Why are you always looking for something negative?Amazing to me how doom and gloom you all are. You wanted to a voice in where the buildings would be, and that is exactly what they are giving the voters.

  108. Anonymous on January 20, 2008 9:30 pm
  109. Hey Nate seen you and girlfriend today in Des Moines. When r u going to fill us in?

  110. Anonymous on January 20, 2008 11:52 pm
  111. So there was a winner in “The Bachelor: Stuart-style?” Wow.

  112. Anonymous on January 21, 2008 12:09 am
  113. 9:00pm Are you saying that the voters are going to make the decision as to where the HS will be built? So the east site or another site for the HS? If not, the voters are not being given a choice.

  114. Anonymous on January 21, 2008 11:37 am
  115. If you look back on the comments you will see nothing now about the site for the HS, only the ultimatum of the elementary in Dexter being what it will take to get a high school. Make up your minds. The high school will be proposed on the east site where it was, but there will be a choice as to where the west side elem will go. You must stop and think that there is really a need to solve both issues and it will appears that there will never be a solution that will please everyone. So with that, we will have to compromise. The best that we can do is much better than nothing at all. There will not be a high school in the center of town with no room to grow. Makes no sense at all. What we can do as citizens and taxpayers is try to make sure the ballot will be understandable, and if you think for one minute that it won’t be legal, you are whistling in the wind. That is ludicrous. This time people know it can’t wait. There will be a decision and there are citizens from ALL FOUR communities who know that and will do the right thing.

  116. Anonymous on January 21, 2008 4:51 pm
  117. HS east of town, I’ll be voting NO on ABC!

  118. Anonymous on January 21, 2008 5:45 pm
  119. It makes no sense to build a high school on the east site spending $3M more then what it would take on the present site.

  120. Anonymous on January 21, 2008 10:04 pm
  121. You can have voting options A-Z on the ballot! As long as any of the options are for a high school on the school owned land on the east side it will never pass!

    6 x NO= NO
    7 X NO= NO

  122. Anonymous on January 21, 2008 10:07 pm
  123. The east siders will never forget Cory & his concurrent action to throw Redfield out of the district. Even though glad to have new additons in Redfield and remodeling in Dexter people will not forget their Redfield building being torn down. Sorry students but get use to portable buildings for a long time! It is vote NO time #7

  124. Anonymous on January 22, 2008 12:50 am
  125. If you want a new HS then vote for one on the present site; otherwise as 10:07 stated, “get use to portable buildings”.

  126. Anonymous on January 22, 2008 12:58 pm
  127. Concurrent action was/is the one thing Cory did that I was proud/happy/excited about. Too bad he stopped and didn’t follow through.

  128. Anonymous on January 22, 2008 2:28 pm
  129. I hope your “proud/happy/excited” about the portable buildings.

  130. Anonymous on January 22, 2008 7:45 pm
  131. What is so bad about the site on the east edge of Stuart ? Why would one want to rebuild on a site that obviously has some issues and NO room to expand, of which it may appear some minds have no room for expansion either ! Might you be someone who is already sending their children out of the district and don’t want any additional tax burden ? It is eye-opening to see how much tax dollars are leaving this district due to open enrollment…Back in the day, good enough to live in the district, good enough to send your kids to the local school. Improvements have/are already being made at 2 of the facilities, it is about time to step up to the plate and get something resolved about the high school situation before it is too late.

  132. Anonymous on January 22, 2008 11:04 pm
  133. I agree, build the HS on the present site and save 3 million dollars of taxpayers money. Build the district wide elementary in Dexter. If the bond referendum for the city and school should past, the taxpayers are going to have a big load to carry on their property tax bill.

  134. Anonymous on January 23, 2008 10:24 am
  135. I heard a board member talk about the 3 million dollar savings by building on to the present HS. Why isn’t this huge savings a key point to the construction of the HS? I won’t vote for the east site knowing that my tax dollars are being wasted.

  136. Anonymous on January 23, 2008 7:27 pm
  137. The story in the Stuart Hearald this week quotes Rambo saying that the elementary is going to be on the present HS location. I thought someone stated that the voters were going to be given the choice of sites. This is already planned in advanced just like the other referendums. I’ll be voting NO!

  138. Anonymous on January 23, 2008 7:44 pm
  139. No No No

How many times do we have to do this until they change the location.

I guess some people are just stupid, after 6 times it ought to tell you something.

  142. Anonymous on January 25, 2008 8:42 am
  143. After all these years, I have never heard a better option for a high school site.

We keep hearing, find another location but no one ever comes up with one that will be more centrally located, have room for expansion, the soil will be ok to build on, etc.

  144. Anonymous on January 27, 2008 7:10 pm
  145. I was going to vote YES for the bond issue this time but I can not give the district a yes vote. I have no problem building a new much needed HS in Stuart but I will be damned if I will give a yes vote to pour money down the drain for the existing HS that they want to make into a elementary. Quit pissing around and build a new HS and a district wide elementary in Dexter. If our board continues down this path and put A B And C on the ballot they do not have the best interests of the kids. If they did they would put exactly what we need on the ballot. A new high shool in Stuart and a district elementary in Dexter and it would pass. People in all 4 towns know we need these new buildings but they wont vote yes if you allow them to put this crap on the ballott. The paper and Arnold said the current HS is HISTORY!!! Lets move this district on to bigger and better things.

  146. Anonymous on January 27, 2008 7:17 pm
  147. After reading the Dallas County news article on the board meeting last week, why on earth would we consider building a new HS. If we can’t finish the work in Redfield because we are SHORT on funds then how do they think we can pay for a bond of $15,000 mil. Fix the current HS west end and add on to the west like they propose for the elementary and that is a savings of $3,000 mil. We are in a bad situtation and we need to be smart about it. Let’s not vote on something that our district can’t afford. I don’t know what is left to do in Redfield but I can bet that if their project is not finished now you will not see another penny spent on that building until they get all they want for the HS. Board members do the RIGHT THING!!!

  148. Anonymous on January 27, 2008 7:24 pm
  149. How do we know for sure that the only soil problems the building has is on the west end. Our district spent $4,000 on the Menlo and Redfield schools each to do a feasibility study a few years ago but they did not see the need for it at the current HS. Before I give a yes vote I want documentation that the rest of the current HS is safe and sound. It should be done before they print the ballots and then they can make the ballots much easier. Vote for a new HS in stuart and all elementary in Dexter. There is no way you will convince the public that the only thing wrong with the currnt hs BUILDING IS the West wing. Bullshit. It’s all crap!!! I know I went to school their recently and there is no amount of money that is going to make that a state of the art elementary. Oh but maybe they just want a state of the art HS only!!!

  151. See or call a school board member and read the new proposal. It is for a new high school to be built, renovation of a building for an elementary, and then C is where do you want the elementary to be built. If you want C it will be through a voted PPEL. So for those of you who keep saying you’ll vote yes if there is a district wide elementary in Dexter than this should pass easily.

  152. Anonymous on January 28, 2008 6:42 pm
  153. Is there just one spot on this ballot I can put a NO.

Because that is all I need. A box I can check that says NO new high school in Stuart.

It doesn’t get much more simple than NO.

  154. Anonymous on January 28, 2008 6:49 pm
  155. I take it that WCV has NO Rainy Day Fund set aside. Just goes to prove arnie is leading us by our noses and we are flying by the seat of our pants. I have to agree with the comment above. We will never see any more money spent on the middle school building now that we are broke and a JOKE.

  156. Anonymous on January 28, 2008 8:21 pm
  157. The rest of the middle school project is put on hold as we have to purchase modular buildings. Do you not read the paper or do you just rely on gossip?

  158. Anonymous on January 29, 2008 7:47 am
  159. I read the paper. And the fact is we are broke. Modulars don’t cost that much but more than we have in savings. But HELL yes lets spend 15mil that we don’t have. Our board has already borrowed on the 1 cent sales tax. Our economy is in the toilet. Ya lets spend it all and force people out of their homes then lets see how many people want to live in this district and help pay for this!!!

  160. Anonymous on January 29, 2008 11:47 am
  161. I cannot believe this comment section has gone on this far. There is very little factual information on most of these comments. Only threats, gossip, and comments that further the infection that is tearing down this district. We understand that there are people who will invent reasons not to pass this bond. It has become evident that some really want all the district school buildings in either Dexter or Redfield. That absolutely won’t happen and shouldn’t logistically. Common sense doesn’t prevail even in the wildest stretch of the imagination when it comes to this blog regarding the school bond. The greed and selfishness, not to mention the absolute ignorance of most of the comments defy logic and are meant to do absolutely nothing but further divide the district. This is insanity, and the only thing that will stop it is for people to unite and decide once and for all that something is better than nothing, and pass this thing so we can get on with the task of teaching our students and providing safe, convenient, and up to date educational experience. Where in the hell has Wildcat Pride gone? For those of you who are reading and not posting negatively, cudos. Tell everyone you know about what’s going on here, and get them to the polls and put an end to this. We need a school that shows the PRIDE OF THE WILDCATS in our students and our district, not whining, crying greedy people who just want to spoil any chance this passing. The one and only answer this time is to outvote the negatives.

  162. Anonymous on January 29, 2008 6:58 pm
  163. 11:47 You only add to the non factual information with your statement”It has become evident that some really want ALL the district school buildings in either Dexter or Redfield” Talk about spreading rumors. That one was dead when they tore down the building in Redfield. Don’t come on here and pretend to be holly than thou when you are no different than the rest. You read this blog then chastize it and add your own fuel. Deal with it!!!! No one is asking for all to be in Redfield. They want the m s in Redfield district wide elementary in Dexter and HS in Stuart. Isn’t that what this has been all about the other 6 times. A NEW HIGH SCHOOL IN STUART!!! Just exactly what are your bitching about???

  164. Anonymous on January 29, 2008 7:01 pm
  165. I read in the board minutes last week that the board secretary is finding it difficult to deal with the multiple banks our district uses. That was in place when she took the job and so was the fact that our district is made up of 4 communities and they all have banks. Get used to it and deal with it. All towns deserve to reap some of the financial benefits.

  166. Anonymous on January 30, 2008 5:49 pm
  167. Modulars are cheap? You’ve got to be kidding me. Call Earlham and find out how much they are. They aren’t cheap.

  168. Anonymous on January 31, 2008 7:30 am
  169. $250K to put up a portable in Earlham. Its more than a building.. fire system, phone system, electric hook ups.

  170. Anonymous on January 31, 2008 10:34 am
  171. I don’t believe the person said they were cheap. I think the comment was we have spent every thing we have and then some. I have to agree we are broke.

  172. Anonymous on January 31, 2008 10:49 am
  173. The bond will be close to 17 Million dollars. Are you ready to pay?

  174. Anonymous on January 31, 2008 12:23 pm
  175. it will not be that much and if it is, it’s only your fault for not passing it when it was 13 mil. or 10 mil. or any of the other previous time. YOU “no” people are the ones who are costing the district money and making the bond amounts go higher. so stop bitching.

  176. Anonymous on January 31, 2008 1:01 pm
  177. The bond referendum is for $16,950,000.00, you can read it at the Post Office. NO, I can’t afford that much on my taxes, plus we still have the upcoming referendums for the library, city hall and police station. I will vote NO, in the past I’ve voted yes but not this time around.

  178. Anonymous on January 31, 2008 6:58 pm
  179. If the buildings had been maintained we wouldn’t be having this discussion period.

  180. Anonymous on January 31, 2008 9:11 pm
  181. 12:23 quit your whining. The majority has voted and beat this damn horse 6 times now. If we would have passed one of the past bonds we would be in bigger debt and trouble. We would be half way into it then find out that the west wing was sinking. You will loose again so DEAL WITH IT!!!

  182. Anonymous on February 1, 2008 2:35 pm
  183. You want property tax relief? Contact your local senator/legislator.. get involved and support the SILO repeal and State Wide penny bill. WCV has much to $ benefit and property tax relief from this bill should it pass and become law. Stop whining. Do any of you even know how much your property taxes will increase should this pass?

  184. Anonymous on February 1, 2008 9:52 pm
  185. Yes we do because some of us are from the west side and actually know how to calculate things.

  186. Anonymous on February 3, 2008 12:48 pm
  187. Stop here and take a look at where all the crap and inaccurate information and threats are coming from. Ignorance is amazing as far as the facts go. Tell ya what, morons, go back to school, and improve your own IQ and it will solve two problems this district has. One, you will be able to process factual information correctly, enabling you to make informed decisions and two, you will see what a shit hole these kids are putting up with because of your utter stupidity. Unbelievable. Now, do you comprehend this?

  188. Anonymous on February 4, 2008 8:44 pm
  189. 12:48 is there a point behind all of your bitching??? There is no one to blame for this mess but our board members. Put a ballot out that is what the people have asked before with the 6 NO VOTES!! They do NOT want a HS on the ground by the Catholic Church. They do NOT want to put any more money in that SHIT HOLE AS YOU STATED. If they insist on this stupidity as you also stated then the end result will be the same. NO for the 7th time. Now, do you COMPREHEND THIS?

  190. Anonymous on February 4, 2008 9:16 pm
  191. 12:48- Do you comprehend that the voters have said NO to the east site SIX times now? If this referendum is anything like those in the past we know where the threats and misinformation will be coming from…the supt and board members!

  192. Anonymous on February 7, 2008 1:41 pm
  193. No problem with my comprehension at all. I understand the problem completely. I ask you again, is there anything at all short of taking the whole damned thing to Dexter and Redfield? If that is the case, as I presume it is, you are doing exactly what you accuse the Stuart people of doing. I’m not from here, so it absolutely makes no difference to me what you idiots do. I have read the blogs from the stuart police crap to the school crap to the city council crap, (including the Redfield city) and the common denominator us that you people would rather fight and tear each other up like pitbulls rather than to compromise on a single thing. You deserve what you have which is nothing…nothing at all, but in my eyes and taking the whole district, you leave a whole lot of kids holding that empty basket, and they can’t do anything about it because the adults in their lives are so selfish and greedy that what’s best fro them isn’t their priority. That’s usually called abuse. You are no better than the common abuser to a whole generation of these kids who will grow up in your muck. The smart ones will simply go away and forget they were ever here, if their parents see no future. Grow up before your communities turn to nothing but truck stops, fast food, or even worse for the towns that don’t even have that much, empty buildings and a casey’s store.

  197. All I’m hearing is very infantile, negitive, threatening and ridiculus. WWJD? You should be ashamed of your behavior!Grow up. Let’s put the children first. I’ll tell you that I attended HS in both SM & Dexfield. Thirty-five years ago. Niether building was great, even then. Let’s work together. I’ll bet that we have spent what it would have cost if we could have passed something the first time around. Committees, legal fees, archectect fees, Rambo, jimmy rigging and piss-patching in order to get by, energy costs, the cost of the bond issues and the special elections, not to mention higher construction costs. Now talk of renting/leasing portable units all while our students and teachers are attending unsafe and non-productive environments. What are we thinking?COMPROMISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im still not sure that we are even on the right track, but we must do something for the sake of the kids and the future of our district. HS in Stuart- District wide elementary in Dexter- MS in Redfield. Simple, so why is it so hard to fix? WWJD?

  198. Anonymous on February 17, 2008 6:26 pm
  199. 2:20 I have to agree with you. We wouldn’t be having these discussions if they would have just put the 1 elementary in Dexter and a new HS in Stuart. No they have to muddy the waters with the falling down building in Stuart that is not good enough for the HS because it leaks and is falling down from the bottom up. Why would they even consider putting anything in the Stuart building (afterall it is all about the children). Looks llike we’re trading RADOM for MOLD. Now that is really putting the children first isn’t it? Do you know that there is nothing in the wording of the ballott that is going to hold this board or any other board in the future to using the 1 cent sales tax to pay this down. Again that is just more words they are throwing around to tryto get you to trust them. This is the same as all the other bonds that have failed. It is for more money, bigger HS that we don’t have the students for, and still on the ground that was purchased before we combined. They just don’t get it. For the CHILDREN MY ASS!!! Once again it’s for Stuart.

  200. Anonymous on February 18, 2008 11:54 am
  201. I’m sick and tired of hearing that this is “for the children”. It’s for the special interest group in Stuart! I will vote NO!

  202. Anonymous on February 18, 2008 12:51 pm
  203. Please, name the people who are on this so-called “special interest group.” They seem to be the reason for the earth moving but yet, no one can say exactly who they are. My thought: figment of your imagination.

  204. Anonymous on February 18, 2008 2:22 pm
  205. The trouble is this group is behind all the bonds but haven’t been able to move the earth yet. They won’t get it done this time either, I’m voting NO!

  206. Anonymous on February 18, 2008 9:25 pm
  207. But, you obviously STILL can’t name the people that make up this alleged group. Why?

  208. Anonymous on February 19, 2008 7:49 am
  209. 9:25 You continue to stick your head in the sand regarding this group that pushes this crap. Therefore you will continue to have crap buildings in your town. DEAL WITH IT!!!

But, since you know so much about them, you should be able to name names without even thinking about it. So? Come on. Give me names. Quit stalling and making excuses or trying to distract me by attacking (that’s aimed at 7:49). Those little tactics make me think you have no idea what you are talking about and are totally B.S.-ing.

  220. Anonymous on February 19, 2008 6:42 pm
  221. No, I just don’t like blaming people or groups of people for doing things that others say they are doing without proof. And yet, the ones who are accusing these “special interest people/group” of things refuse to give their names. I just want to know why. You say you supposedly know who the “special interest people” are and what they do and why they do it. I just want you to prove it. Give me names of group members. Why is it so hard for you to do? What proof do you have? Come on! Stop being scared, stop hiding behind insults, and quit stalling.

  223. If Stuart wants their new high school then the solution is simple as ABC. Vote yes for a district wide elementary in Dexter or forget your high school!

  224. Anonymous on February 19, 2008 8:11 pm
  225. A NO
    B NO
    C NO

  226. Anonymous on February 20, 2008 3:32 am
  227. Honey, you can’t have your district wide unless you vote for the high school. Remember? Option C is contingent on the passing of A and B. So, I guess it’s more like if Dexfield wants the district wide elementary then you’d better vote yes for the high school or just forget the elementary all together!

If the high school doesn’t pass you get NOTHING!

  228. Anonymous on February 20, 2008 7:56 am
  229. Then it’s settled I guess we will end up with nothing once again.

  233. Stupidity. Pure and simple. There will be a school. People are sick and tired of your nit picking and dreaming up excuses for not solving the problem. There is nothing, absolutely nothing that will be acceptable to the nay sayers unless the entire school system is moved to the east side, and we all know that won’t happen. They don’t want a school period. They just don’t want to build a school. Beats the crap out of me why. Every year it is another excuse. People across the whole district who have previously agreed with one rant or another of theirs, or even the lies about the tax levy last time, are absolutly done with this fighting. the majority are ready to compromise. You say no high school unless there is a district wide elem in Dexter, well you have a chance to get out the vote to make it happen. I’m hearing that people are ready to let the elem go to Dexter for a high school. If they don’t vote for it, because they have to approve a high school, it’s pure ignorance, and it has been said that it won’t appear as an option again. Put your money where your mouth is for once and get your elementary. If you still say no, you can blame it on no one but yourself. This time it will pass.

  234. Anonymous on February 20, 2008 7:13 pm
  235. 3:07pm Please tell us where you received your information, “it has been said that it won’t appear as an option again.” Rambo or the school board can’t state for a fact just how much this whole bond is going to cost the taxpayers. It all depends on the sales tax some of which can’t be used for 5 years. Even then there is no definite statement that it will be used, only if it is available.

    Feb. 25- 6 p.m. in Redfield; 7:30 p.m. in Dexter
Feb. 26- 6 p.m. in Stuart; 7:30 p.m. in Menlo (I could have the sites turned around)
    March 10- 6 p.m.(?) in Redfield
    March 11- 6 p.m.(?) in Stuart

Please take the time to listen to the information and have your questions answered.

Please be informed about this issue.

  239. With the economy in or heading into a recession will people be spending that much money to generate sales tax revenue to help pay for the new school or additions?

  240. Anonymous on February 20, 2008 8:53 pm
  241. Remember, the promoters are only speaking of the AVAILABILITY of sales tax as an alternative funding source. If the money isn’t collected in sales tax then each year the appropriate amount would have to be added to your yearly property tax. Beware; there is a huge loop hole.

  242. Anonymous on February 20, 2008 10:56 pm
  243. Ah heck Broman, I know everything I need to know.

    Inadequate Building - Check
    Same Location - Check
    Sluggish Economy - Check

Another failed bond issue - Check :)

  244. Anonymous on February 20, 2008 11:40 pm
  245. It looks like for the elementary that adding on to the Stuart building is way cheaper than adding on to the Dexter one. I think it will be fine to have 2 elementaries. It’s not hurting anyone now and it will save even more money if we didn’t have to bus 500 kids to Dexter every day. Expecially when fuel costs are expected to raise drastically in the next few years.

  246. Anonymous on February 21, 2008 3:08 pm
  247. The question and answer meetings will answer these questions. All of them legitimate questions, and should be easily answered. Also, the remark about not having another chance like this was addressed in the initial handout regarding this vote. I saw it. Whether anyone believes it is with good intentions, I believe it is the best possible solution to handling two issues at once and doing it in the best interest of the taxpayers as well as the students. It is up to the voters to say where they want the elementary and to be honest, I really don’t care as long as we can get the school building issues settled where ever it lands and get on with educating these kids. The option to use sales tax whenever possible seems like a good plan, and it has been tested in other schools. Again, go to a meeting and don’t be afraid to ask a question.

  248. Anonymous on February 21, 2008 3:09 pm
  249. It makes more sense to add on to the Stuart Building and leave the Menlo kids here and save some gas, but I don’t care if they go to Dexter, just get it overwith.

  250. Anonymous on February 21, 2008 5:08 pm
  251. It will also be “up to the voters” to decide if they want a new HS built east of town. We have already voted this site down 6 times! I will vote NO 3 times.

  252. Tod Broman on February 21, 2008 8:31 pm

  257. I don’t think you can speak for all the kids and teachers Broman. To think that is rather arrogant. Not all the teachers and kids share your opinion so saying it is 0-6 for kids and teachers isn’t correct, at least not in America.

  259. Most of our buses use diesel now. Also there are now “hybrid” versions being introduced for school buses that will save all school districts a lot in the coming years.

  260. Anonymous on February 22, 2008 8:31 am
  261. I noticed that the elementary plan for Stuart has no room for a parking lot. The current west lot will be gone, the only option looks like the very small south lot and street parking only(show up early or walk a long way). I was told that buses will load/unload on the city streets and not on school property. Why won’t the parents of elementary students put up with that. It surely “can’t” hurt our precious kids to be forced to once breathe sewer gas and radon, then trade it for a mold infested building, wake up! Open enrolling to Dexter sounds like a safer environment for my kids.

  262. Anonymous on February 22, 2008 9:38 am
  263. There’s that little term again - “stuart special interest group.” When is anyone going to tell us the people involved? The fact you can’t is why I think you all who believe there is some group are nothing but a big joke. Get a clue.

  264. Anonymous on February 22, 2008 9:41 am
  265. 8:12 - To buy hybrid busses means we have to have the money to pay for new busses. You willing to donate?

8:31 - The busses already unload on a city street. The district doesn’t own the street in front of the high school. The town of Stuart does so your argument is pretty much null and void.

    I apologize.

  271. Feb 20 11:40 PM.. Please tell me when our Menlo elementary grew to 500 students??? Like always you print misinformation on this blog. The school count for elementary in Menlo is 259 NOT 500!!!!

  272. Anonymous on February 24, 2008 8:45 pm
  273. When a board member was asked how many students this proposed high school was for AGAIN they did not know but would have to check on it. How can you possibly build a new high school and not know how many students you need it for or how many students it will hold????? Come on MR Bond Man and board members and Arnie come clean with us!!! Really this is the same plan (with the exception of elementary in Dexter) that we have voted down 6 times before!! A few minor details have changed, it is now for 35000 SQ and 16.9 mill. Ask the bond man they don’t know what a hs is going to cost but HOPE the bids come in around 12 mill then they can use the rest for elementary but they don’t know what they are going to do with the elementary. We could have a new wing on the elementary in Stuart and still have the same shitty painted windows on the rest of the school. Before you vote ask them what we are going to get for our money. I refuse to give them a blank check and then wing it!!!!! I want to know what they are spending the money on and you should also. The prints of the plan in the paper are not what they are going to be building but something like it!!!!

    Brian Belden
    Neil Crawford
    Jim Belden

General Obligation bonds means this board can have access to our tax dollars for the next 20 years. If they really have the INTENT of using the 1 cent sales tax then why did they not word the ballott that way. Don’t say they can’t because it has been done in other school districts. Once again they are just words but when you vote that is binding. Think before you vote this tax on ourselves for the next 20 years. There is always hope that they will get it right but again this is not the one!!!

Also the wording on the ballott is so confusing that the Dallas County Auitor has sent it to the Secretary of State to be looked at because they can’t make heads or tails of it either which is exactly what the board and bond man want. They dont want us to understand what we are being asked to vote for.

    A NO
    B NO
    C NO

  274. Anonymous on February 25, 2008 10:42 am
  275. The ballot is written the way it is to totally confuse the voters. I’ll make it easy on myself and vote NO NO NO! In the future what the property owners will be paying per year is $4.05 per $1,000.00 valuation.
