Weekly Recap

May 16, 2008 |

- Congrats to all the WCV seniors who will be graduating on Sunday. Good luck minimizing life’s downs and emphasizing the ups in your post-high school journeys.

- Is anyone as confused as I am when you see multiple candidates “Vote for So-and-so for sheriff” signs in someone’s yard? I understand showing your support for one sheriff candidate, but does it make sense to put both candidates’ signs in your yard? Which one are you supporting?

- It looks like some early work is starting on the Cultural Center formerly known as All Saints Church. This should be a very good addition to Stuart if it’s promoted correctly and so far signs are good.

Thank you to everyone who helped out at the bar during Dad’s recent stretch of health trouble. And a huge thanks to the Stuart Rescue Unit crews. These individuals are some of our best eggs. Thank you!

  1. I agree about the signs!! It makes me sick when I see people with both canadaties signs in their yard. Come on get real people we all know what color sign we ALL need in our yards. RED

  5. To me, if you have both candidates sign in your yard, you look like a stupid fool.
Put one or the other in or none.

  11. What was up with Woody getting all the names wrong at graduation? That was pretty bad.I felt sorry for those kids.

  12. Anonymous on May 21, 2008 6:49 am
  13. What an embarrasment with all the wrong names. For an educator for 35 years I now see why he is retiring. He blew it for the 2008 class. IF he does not know after 35 years the difference between Michael and Michelle it is obvious we were paying him way too much!! He needs to write a personal apology to the class of 2008!

  15. Are you sure it was Woody announcing the names?

  16. Anonymous on May 21, 2008 1:12 pm
  17. POSITIVE!!!! AKA Dan Wilson!!!

  18. Anonymous on May 21, 2008 4:48 pm
  19. Yes, I am sure it was Woody. He was sitting at a table in front of the bleachers reading from a paper. It was 100% Woody.

  20. Anonymous on May 22, 2008 6:53 am
  21. No doubt it was Wilson and it was awful. Better he should write a letter to the paper expressing his apology. And why all of a sudden did they decide to use him? It is obvious he has never done this before. As a good educator he should have been practicing these names if he had any doubts of his reading abilities. Good ridance he is gone now!!!

  23. I heard they chose him because this is his last year.

  25. Woody is one of the best teachers WCV ever had and ever will have. Lay off of him. You ever think this may have been done last minute.

I can’t believe you guys. I forgot everyone on here is a perfect person.

  27. Woody has had way too many breaks in this school district. Anywhere else with his baggage and he would have been gone a long time ago.

  28. Anonymous on May 23, 2008 4:19 pm
  29. Woody’s got wood on too many ladies in the district!

  30. Anonymous on May 23, 2008 4:35 pm
  31. Woody was one of the best teachers I ever had.

  33. Woody was and is the best teacher WCV ever had. The people on here commenting probably couldn’t hack his classes.

  34. Anonymous on May 23, 2008 6:57 pm
  35. NO the people on here that are commenting were @ graduation and thought it was ridiculous that he couldn’t read the names!!

  37. what happened to the 2 workers at the bus barn did they quit.

  38. Anonymous on May 24, 2008 12:41 pm
  39. Has anybody heard what happened over at the projects last nigght? I heard there was a shooting?

  40. Anonymous on May 24, 2008 1:18 pm
  41. Leave Dan Wilson. I wish the district had more people like him. Look at the FFA program and science fair accomplishments over the years. The kids couldn’t have done it without his assistance. Every year at awards night they refer to Mr. Schwinger as “Mr. Science Fair”. It was Dan Wilson who did more for the science fair program than anybody else at West Central Valley. I just wish Broman was also leaving so we could start out fresh with a new science team at WCV.

  42. Anonymous on May 24, 2008 1:22 pm
  43. Yeah leave Dan Wilson alone! A few years ago Broman didn’t pronounce a name correctly at graduation and people didn’t make a big deal of it. Of course Toddy would never admit to making a mistake since he thinks he is perfect.

  44. Anonymous on May 24, 2008 1:28 pm
  45. Did you hear Broman is using the school email address book to drum up business for one of his sons for the summer? He and his son are probably so cheap they wouldn’t pay to run an ad in the 5×80 shopper or The Herald. Not the first time Todd has used the WCV email for personal things. If every teacher used the school email to advertise the old server might fill up in a hurry! Leave it to Broman to do something like this instead of doing his job of teaching. Arnold needs to tell him to stop! Broman needs to retire!

  46. Anonymous on May 24, 2008 1:49 pm
  47. According to Iowa Law, all e-mails sent eith the studex.k12.ia.us address are PUBLIC RECORD!

  48. Anonymous on May 24, 2008 8:48 pm
  49. Broman is a pain that is for sure, shouldn’t be advertising via school e-mail. I did not pay for that. I wouldn’t trust either of his sons farther than I could toss them, and that wouldn’t be very far.

Broman doesn’t just need to retire, he needs to move to California.

Dan Wilson is one of the best, if there were mistakes I’m sure they were honest ones. I forgot everyone else pronounces everyones name correctly.

  51. Yes Mr Wilson really hacked the names of MANY of the students. I could understand this had he not known the kids that he was announcing or if it had only been a couple of their names. He messed up bad!
As far as his teaching ability, I can’t say. I was never one of his students. My kids seemed to like him as a teacher. They liked Mr Broman, but not Schwinger. I never liked Schwinger or Mr Gilman either. They wouldn’t help you when you just couldn’t get it. They just presented the assignment and if you didn’t get it, well that’s too bad. They both had their favorites too.
Now about the shooting, it was not at the”Projects”. The cops were called to the Carol Ann Davis apartment. Kids were knocking on her doors and windows and running away.
There was a shooting out near Dimondhead. They took a female to jail and a male subject to Guthrie County Hospital. According to the scanner, the rescue call wasn’t “10-33″(an emergency) it wasn’t life threatening. It was a domestic dispute.
About the political signs, I choose not to litter my yard with them.

  52. Anonymous on May 29, 2008 3:53 pm
  53. According to the Guthrie Center Times, the shooting was North of Stuart at 3400 310th St.
A man was shot on the arm and hand and Brenda Cuthbertson, 49 was arrested and charged with domestic abuse and attempted murder.

  54. Anonymous on May 31, 2008 8:25 am
  55. My kids thought Dan Wilson and Todd Broman were excellent teachers. They did not like Schwinger at all but I am sure he made them better prepared for college than any other teacher at WCV.

  56. Anonymous on June 2, 2008 1:37 pm
  57. I don’t recall reading that Dan was not a good teacher. The point being made was he botched the names of several of the students graduating. Nuff said.

  59. Hey Nate I heard tonight that you are a t-ball coach? You are really getting involved in the community :)
