Weekly Recap
July 25, 2008 |
Jeez, it’s been a while since a crappy recap. What’s new?
- The Friendly Gas Station Man is back in Menlo and it’s making headlines. Does anybody else actually wave when they go by or is it just me?
- The new WCV school construction is facing delays. The demolition of the old west wing is delayed too. Let’s get a move on.
I think about everything else has been covered elsewhere. Have a good weekend!
Brian Calek tonight at Ruby’s. Comedy night at the Fire Station tomorrow. Come check it out!

I wave too!!
Yep sounds like the school is in big trouble. Imagine that who would have thought that they screwed it up. Where are all the yes people with the answers now?
It appears the superintendent & board didn’t read Rambo’s fine print very closely! Why should the taxpayers outside the Stuart city limits have to pay to develop the infrastructure for the new schools? The Stuart city leaders and all the YES people should come up with the needed funds, but I am sure the board will come up with a way to raise our taxes to pay for it, and figure out a way to give teachers less in salaries. Of course the adminstrators wouldn’t consider giving up their recent pay raises. Sorry Stuart but you better tax your city residents not the rest of us. Delays Delays Delays. So sad for Stuart, couldn’t happen to a better group of stinkers!
Hey Nate did you have water in your basement today?
Only a couple feet. The pumps ought to have it dry in a week or so
Like hell we are going to pay for Stuart to update their infrastructure. Open up your checkbook Stuart, you wanted this.
yeah I waved to the man,, and he waved back.
Rare site, thank you Kalbach’s.
No matter who or how the school situation became a situation, someone was asleep at the wheel, and if you are waiting on any involvement with the city to speed things along, good luck. This might as well be scrapped if you are counting on anything but hands out from the city.

We are not listed under the FEMA Individual Assistance Program at this time. We are asking people to call the FEMA Helpline at
800-621-3362. They will register your information so that if we are declared under the FEMA program they can get back to you.
Also there is a program available through the Iowa Department of Human Service for some appliance type replacement. The
application and requirements are available on their website or at their office.
You might also check with the Region 12 Council of Governments in Carroll. Their phone number is 712-792-9914. They have
program that offers assistance through what I think is a low interest loan program for disaster repairs.
Also, you might contact the Iowa Concerns Hotline at 1-800-447-1985. They sometime know of places to get special assistance.
If I can get you any other information feel free to leave a message on my office phone.

Hey Nate, Too bad your dad retired from the city. Otherwise he would have had the generator fired up and I wouldn’t have had so much water in my basement. On the north side of town, the eletricity has off for about 5 hours. My sump pump stopped, but the rain kept on a coming. Thank God it stopped before it ruined my furnace and hot water heater. I really miss your dad’s diligence!!! He had pride in his work. I hope that he will train the guy that’s taking over for him on the generator. They can fill the vacancy, but they can’t replace your dad. He Rocks!
Thank you
I heard that the Stuart radio station told who was arrested with shooting up the speed sign on the East edge of Stuart a month or so ago.
Why would John Slayton shoot up the speed sign? Waht an idiot.
People like John Slayton cost the taxpayers alot of money. $5900. damage to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s dept. equipment. Who pays?
Taxpayers, unless they get him to pay
The gas station man is setting a terrible example for our area youth. When I was a kid my parents taught me to never wave to strangers, yet now boys and girls will think it’s alright to do so now that they see Gas Station Man doing it.
Or worse yet, they might think that all gas station workers are nice and harmless people when in fact most of them are creeps and low lifes.
It’s a slippery slope and before you know it suddenly Johnny and Sally are sniffing glue behind townie bar dumpsters. The fact that there isn’t more of an outcry about Gas Station Man is appalling.
[Hey Westre - can you please delete previous draft and use this one instead? My editing skills aren't what they once were. Thanks buddy!!]

Might as well tell Jr “Sure, go ahead and take a ride in that ominous looking Chevy Van circa 1987. That driver seems trustworthy, he’s only offering your daughter candy.”

HOW SOON WE FORGET JOHNNY GOSCH
jdub, what are you sniffing at 1:09 in the morning? Thats rediculous to think waving at a
tall neon metal man is the same as a child getting in a strangers car.
Maybe we better not take our kids to parades because they will be waving at strangers!
Ha Ha, Hilarity ensues. The new high school is getting smaller. Ha, Ha.
I waved at that guy every day on my way to elementary school. I guess I should feel lucky that I never got kidnapped…? Call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure that most kids can tell the difference between a twelve foot tall sign and a guy that deserves the “stranger danger” shout. Did Johnny Gosch pass through Menlo before he went missing? I guess I missed that one.
“Maybe we better not take our kids to parades because they will be waving at strangers!”
That’s an excellent point Jodi. Parades tell our kids that it’s okay to take candy from strangers. As parents, we can never be too careful.
Wow… who knew
Jodi you betta take care of your family
OMG, WTF are you talking about? Are you threatening Jodi? What’s wrong with waving? The Gas Station Man is cool! Parades are fun. I remember when everybody you drove past in a car or folks just out walking waved at everybody even if they didn’t know who you were. I still wave at every car I pass. Not many wave back now days. I think that Jdub is paranoid. Menlo also has a great town slogan(”Home to Few, Friend to All”) Too bad that we can’t try to live by this motto.
I too think that Menlo’s motto is one to live by. The person that thought that up, obviously grew up around here and know what menlo as a community is or atleast was. A great little town!!! I cherish the days I spent at my grandparents in Menlo, they were the rocks that helped build that community, and would be hurt to see it in the shape it is now. (a lil run down) Although I believe that most of the people that live there, are good people trying to keep it as well as they can.
