  5. The story didn’t say much. The citizens deserve an impartial explanation.

  11. Rich people like….?

  12. Anonymous on December 10, 2006 12:23 am
  13. There are several rich people in this town who donate time and money. Paige Williams though is not wanted in this town with is drug money.

  14. Anonymous on December 10, 2006 7:26 am
  15. Apparently SOMEBODY wants Paige Williams in town. I can think of at least three somebodys right off the top of my head. Cheryl Marks, Bryan Belden and Neal Crawford. Jeff Sherman is just finishing off the job that his dear daddy in law couldn’t finish. Cook resigned because he actually has ethics. Askren is caught between a rock and a hard place. If no one wanted Paige Williams’s money, Rayburn would still be chief. simple as that.

  17. wow. askren is stuck between criminal charges and the ex-chiefs employment.

i dont know anything about money involved.

  19. The problems with Rayburn started long before Mr. Williams returned. Go read old council minutes. Why must there be a link?

  27. Well, isn’t this a sorry mess. It would be a real shame if KCCI or WHO or ABC or FOX, any one of them or all of them came into your town and took the words of Ann Cult, Susan Wagner, (who don’t live there),or this Peggy somebody, who is instantly a star with her own place on the blog and all the other radicals who feed on this kind of garbage. They are clearly the voice of your ex-police chief, biased, and totally to blame for the totally absurd direction that this and the other two blogs have gone. They came on board, initiated a dual with a teenager, who was no more biased than them, but in a different direction, and shared it with the public on the world wide web, initiated a firestorm of innuendo, liabel, slander and defamation of many good people who live in your town ending with, if you can believe it, one of your own volunteers! The good news is that hopefully, the people blogging regularly are not the norm, not the guts, nor the grinding hub of your town. If that is not correct, you will lose in all respects the very heart of that town you claim to love. The IEye needs to go, like the Voice did. It became a rag. a gossip rag. That is what it has made of the blogs. The ficticious ramblings and “intertwining” of citizens in your community sounds like someone has done a little too much reading of mystery novels. Way too much drama. If you people really prefer gutter wallering, I suggest you keep it up, but if you have a job or a family or a life, make it a little better and spend more time with them. If I were a member of your community I would shout Ann and Susan out of every meeting they attend. I would hound them until they got the message to leave. do not pass go, do not go directly to jail, just go and never come back. I hope if those media stations appear in your town, they talk to the right people. I hope they talk to the hard working people in town who see this for what it is. Mr. Westre, you have a very good blog. You are a fair person, it seems. You are also a man with common sense, and I, too, know where you came from. Your blog doesnt deserve this “overflow” of the other two, especially when they choose not to publish what they don’t want to hear. The lady who is a “former minister’s wife” should be ashamed of herself. She knows better. Can’t say the same for the other one. I know small town stuff exists, but this is vicious, and it is bad. I am appauled.
    Good luck to your town.

  31. it’s always “blame the messenger” in Stuart isn’t it? Ever thought that if the town’s illustrious city council didn’t act inappropriately to begin with, there would be nothing for these bloggers to blog about? If all is on the up and up, why should everyone be up in arms about what an old fat minister’s wife and her friend or anybody else has to say on these city government matters. Methinks y’all doth protest too much.

  32. Anonymous on December 11, 2006 9:01 am
  33. Why is everyone blaming the councl? No matter what they do, someone isn’t going to like it. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

Carol isn’t an innocent in this situation. She’s caused her share of problems. When she first came to town she pitched a fit because she wasn’t given the chief position and talked all the other officers into quiting with her. Once they all were gone, she came begging for her job back.

Then how can you all forget about Chavez? He was slime and she refused to even write him up on a warning when people came to complain! She was selectively blind to what he did. She had no choice but to fire him when he went after a lady who is extremely respected in this town at a city council meeting.

She lied about doing a background check on him too. Either she didn’t do one or she ignored what she found. This man posed a threat to the woment in town - both young and old. I think the youngest one to complain that he was harrassing her was 14! She did NOTHING until she was forced to by his undeniable public aggression and actions. That is not the actions of a good officer, let alone the police chief!

Carol dug her own grave by just not caring about the town or people. Her firing should have happened a long time ago when the former mayor wanted it. We would have been saved all this grief and the return of Ann and Sue blowing Carol’s horn.

  35. I think we ought to call for Mick Askren’s resignation. Look how he totally dissed this town in a state-wide paper and on television. How can he represent us if he hates us? He needs to go. Maybe that should be the next petition started.

  36. Anonymous on December 11, 2006 12:33 pm
  37. lest we all forget…Mick Askren has a right to speak his mind and give his opinion just like everyone else. He was the sole vote not to fire Rayburn, and the only council member, it appears, that had the guts to talk to the media. She’s fired, so what are you still fired up about? Why are you so threatened by Askren’s and others’ opinions? Mick is not a sheep, and good for him. He stood up for what he believed in, which is refreshing in this day and age. Carol Rayburn refused to kiss the council’s butt and turn a blind eye, and the council couldn’t hack it so they fired her. Your precious council has left your community very vulnerable in the interim…open season for thugs in Stuart — congratulations Mayor Marks.

  39. Mick is a sheep. He’s Carol’s and everyone knows it.

  41. Anonymous @ 8:29pm. If anyone should be “ashamed” it’s the Stuart City Council. They have brought on this whole mess with their private agendas.

  43. Is there somewhere you can see Askren’s interview online for those of us that missed it?
